Last sat, nag pa pms ako ng crv for 2 yrs/40k mileage ko is 26k. We have been using 5W-30 oil and nag 0W-20 ako, may problema ba dun? wala naman? wala naman ako napapansin, pero meron ba dito pwede magpaliwanag kung ano pinagkaiba nung dalawa. sabi nung sa, semi daw yung 5W-30 and Full daw 0W-20...pero alam ko Fully Synthetic talaga ginamit namin after a year so nagtaka ako bat ganun sinabi nya....

If you want to prolong your engine
and give it the maximum protection you should, and you don't need fuel efficiency, this is the ideal oil weight for a gasoline engine.
    0W-40
    5W-40
    10W-40

the lower the second number, the greater chance that the oil will shear faster providing less lubrication.

masyado mababa ung operating temp ng oil viscosity mo lalo na 40k mileage ka na imo.

Sir miko, what will then be the proper oil viscosity if fuel efficiency ang habol ko?

Sir retz if gas engine ka tapos primary factor mo is fuel efficiency, the 0W-30 or the 0W-20 would give you the best mileage...
pag sa diesel engine ginamit yung weight na yan for sure taas sobra ng wear rates and definitely sira turbocharger and engine after sometime...

honda might be advocating that wieght of oil para ma-achieve nila yung promised fuel efficiency ratings nila sa models nila...

fuel efficiency achieved through the use of those weights would at the very best and perfect conditions give you just around 1k/L advantage.....

Idol, may nagsabi sakin yung Flash point daw yung nagdedetermine kung kagad nag shi-shear yung oil. Is this true?

    Thanks.

Bro, flash point is "the temperature at which the oil will start to ignite (oil will catch fire)".... its different from shear stability... so hindi totoo yung nagsabi sayo nun sir bayen,, hehehehe...

"Oil experiences very high stresses in certain areas of the engine such as in the oil pump, cam shaft area , piston rings, and any other areas where two mating surface areas squeeze the oil film out momentarily"

"Most multigrade engine oils contain special types of additives, called Viscosity Index Improvers, which are composed of very large, viscosity-controlling molecules. As the oil passes through the engine, these molecules are permanently sheared or torn apart over time, causing the additive to lose its viscosity-contributing advantages which reduces the oils ability to maintain its higher number"

"You might recall that multi-viscosity petroleum oils tend to use long chain polymers to "beef" themselves up. Under high stress conditions where shearing can occur, these polymers break down."

pag hindi "fully synthetic ang oil, it is prone to shearing (napupunit temporary yung lubrication)....

in the case ng honda na Fully synthetic, it could withstand shearing forces up to a point.... though weight 20 o 30 yung oil dahil sa uniform ang molecules it could provide protection.."(we are talking og gas engines here)",, hindi uubra yan sa diesels...

Chances are, you're not going to stress your engine hard enough for the low viscosity to matter.

Low viscosity = less internal drag = better fuel economy.

Unless you're winding the engine to its redline a lot, 0W-20 should be fine.
