    to check rad cap:

compress if it can be compressed (for pressure relief when it exceeds rad cap rating)

pull the inner spring if it can be pulled (for vacuum relief, when coolant cools it contracts thus creating vacuum in the system)

In most radiators, there is a drain plug on the bottom that can be reached from underneath the radiator.

It is usually a metal or plastic screw with a rubber washer. You can loosen it with a pair of pliers but be gentle - or you may break it.

To drain the radiator, WAIT TILL THE ENGINE IS COLD, then remove the radiator cap and loosen (do not remove) the drain plug, it usually has a slot cut in it to facilitate draining after it has been loosened a few turns.

The best and safest way to flush your radiator is to just add a pure distilled water like Absolute and then drain 1-2 liters away every weekend when the engine is cold.

Refill with more distilled water to make up for the amount you flushed - remember to fill the overflow reservoir too.

Because it has no minerals, the distilled water will slowly dissolve dirt and minerals (scale) that has built up in the engine.

Flushing out some of that, 1-2 liters will, over maybe a year will inevitably carry out most of the stuff.

    Hope this helps.

I bought this Castrol Coolant Concentrate. Is it ok to use it instead of the distilled water?

It is ok but don't use pure coolant ha, half lang or 50% dillution gawin mo.

I use Poison coolant from Caltex. The best in the market. Good for 5 years or 200,000 kms.

kasi sir, kung 50/50 ang mixture, hindi dapat yan masisira. and bawal maghalo ng iba ibang types ng coolant. baka naman naghalo siya ng ibang types kaya nasira. mag-gel talaga yan.

50% coolant + 50% distilled water (Wilkins, absolute). for example. 5 liters yung coolant tank: 2.5L pure coolant + 2.5L distilled water. Make sure the coolant is pure kasi meron na ata binebenta na pre-mixed with water na.

Dont know how much you will need. I use Petron coolant for my car. Instruction says mix 500 ml petron green coolant with 1.5 liters of distilled water (3:1). So it will give you 2 liters. I think 4 liters of the mixed stuff should be enough. Petron coolant is about 125 pesos from Pertron gas stations.

Toyota sells premixed pink coolant. It comes in 2 liter bottles. Less than 200 a bottle.

Preston is also good for your car. They have both concentrate and premixed versions. Cant remember how much.

    i see, thank you sir!!
will try na lang muna petron mixed with distilled water, since katabi lang namin station
sir ask ko na din po,in preparing the solution, what needs to be put first?tama po ba procedure na gagawin ko?pls evaluate:

    1. drain the radiator solution from the drain plug under
    2. put the 1 part solution(if will use the petron coolant)
    3. put the 3 parts distilled water
    4. refill the coolant tank reservoir with distilled water

Sir,if i will DIY,how will i remove the residue or sludge if there's any in the tank?
    thank you!

minimal corrosion lang naman sa aluminum at cast iron ang epekto ng ethylene glycol...usually kung may nagleak, hindi compatible yung rubber parts or 0-rings sa water pump, etc.....we have the green, purple and pink coolants. they serve different carmakes usually but still the same purpose of raising the boiling point and lubricating the cooling circuit (prevents rust).

just bought Caltex coolant. 392/L mahal na pala.

I just noticed na iba na packaging nila ngayon. May malaki ng nakalagay na Poison sa front. Can I still mix this with the old Caltex coolant?

Pwedeng paghaluin ang kulay blue at green pwera lang ang pula. Pinakamagandang iwasan ang kulay pula kung meron dyan.Alin man sa dalawa, blue at green, ay safe sa mga aluminum at cooper materials. If your in doubt, mas maigeng bumili sa casa para walang kaba.

Kindly expound on this? I have been using Caltex Poison and no problem so far. Also, it says in their label na its ok for all types of radiator. I'll check pala the package later tonight.
