I was just wondering, and hopefully someone can shed some explanation into this, but I noticed that the exhaust smell coming from a hyundai CRDI engine smells different than one that comes from let's say a Toyota (D4D) or Mitsubishi (DI-D) engine.

Yung sa Hyundai kasi (I noticed this with my accent and a Tucson CRDi parked once) parang sour-smelling yung amoy ng exhaust niya. Still smells like diesel exhaust, pero mas maasim and mas masakit sa ilong. Whereas with my architect's Montero DI-D and our company shuttle vans (Toyota Hiace Grandia with D4D) the exhaust smells like a regular diesel engine.

Does anyone know what the difference is in terms of construction/design that might cause the difference?
It could be the catalytic converter.

Napansin mo rin pala sir. No big deal din naman. Curious lang ako ano pinagkaiba ng mga engine design ng Hyundai vs Toyota or let's say Mitsu - sama na rin natin ibang brands na meron CRDi engines.

Haha! Acquired scent? :D Ang masakit talaga siguro sa ilong sir yung meron blowby na amoy yung meron kasamang engine oil.

IMHO, it is dangerous to smell or amuyin yung exhaust ng tambutso mapaGas of mapaDiesel.

Thank you for the insight sir. We do understand that it is dangerous to deliberately smell the exhaust. Pero di naman po natin ito maiiwasan lalo't araw araw natin nararanasan either sumakay or mag drive ng petrol or diesel powered vehicle. No purpose on the question sir, just curiosity on the engineering behind the engines of different brands that result in kung ano man yung nagiging amoy ng exhaust.

Peace po tayo sir ha I do understand your point we just want to have a fun discussion here.

Most probably because of catalytic converter...

Different car manufacturers = different emissions design standard ng engine, different suppliers of catcon, different type of catcon, etc.
