hindi ba masyadong malapot ung engine oil na yan? what will be the effect.. pwede pa bang gamitin hanggang sa susunond na lang ulit na oil change? (after 7thou km) 3 times a week lang naman ginagamit ung car. yan kasi ung nilagay ng pinsan ko eh.. tsk tsk tsk.. ano bang magandang oil viscosity para sa honda?

    thanks in advance!!!

Nah, for most low compression engine 20W50 is fine.

Ok lang yung 20w-50, pero based on my personal experience mas matipid sa gas kapag 0w/5w/10w (less friction i guess). Nung naka 0w-30 ako umaabot ng 8.5-9km/l. Ngayon 8km/l lang sa 20w-50. Pero umabot ako ng 9.1km/l 85% highway driving.

20w is heavy... for older 1.6s, I'd recommend 10w or 15w... 0w and 5w only if it's a high performance car, but at 0w, it might be thin enough to leak past the oil rings if its an old or abused car.

That's what I noticed too when I used Castrol 20w50 last month. It's way too thick.

what happens if its too thick?
are you refering to the fully synthetic one ba?
10w and the 15w are the semi synthetic ones?

No damage, if it's just 20w... but the engine will be a bit sluggish, and fuel consumption will increase.

so which oil variant do you recommend for the thread starter's car?
are we talking about the viscousity of the fully against the semi-synthetic oils ba?
    naguguluhan ako

Thicker oils are needed for older engines to protect the parts better. VTEC engines are really durable, even when abused like forgetting to change oil on time, overdriving, etc. They still work like new even after a number of years, so they probably won't need thick oils just yet.

If you maintain your car well, 15W-40 or thinner oils are ideal. But if 20W-50 was already placed, there should really be no problem. Just replace it every 4-5K.

sa next oil change mo na lang palitan. check your car's manual. the recommended viscosity should be there. try fully synthetic next time and feel the difference.

Agree... just wait till the next oil change.

As for synth vs. mineral... synthetics are usually smoother, but on old cars, it's always a good idea to change at 5k intervals, whether you're using synth or not, so it makes more sense to use a good mineral or semi-synth oil to save money.

For newer cars, synthetic is a good idea, and allows long oil change intervals. Of course, some casa's won't respect your warranty if you don't follow their intervals...

20w50 is all right, a bit too thick for the little honda engine, pero it's still good.

    personally, i'd go for 10w40. and i have a ph15 and b20z engine.

10w40 is better but no harm is done if it's kinda thick.

Just had my change oil for my FB's I followed my mechanics advice and put fully synthetic 5w-40 on them. Ok lang ba to during summer? Mababawasan ba usok ng mga to? Next week kasi pa register ko mga to, baka kasi bumagsak sa emission test.

diesels tend to like thicker oil especially kung nabubugbog sila sa byahe... pero kugn religiously maintained then ok lang yan.
