April 25th, 2012 04:04 PM #1Hello gentlemen, I am new here and first my apology if i posted this may be in the wrong category. I just bought a 2012 Isuzu Dmax 4x4 from the dealer. After 3 days, my brother-in-law inspected the engine and probably without carefully returning or recaping the engine oil cap after travelling around 30 kilometers with a 60 to 80 km/h speed when we reached home, we found out that the engine is smoking and oil splatting everywhere in the engine. The engine oil cap is not closed. Here is my questions please my apology as i might ask the wrong questions here but please and kindly provide answer if it is near to what i meant.
1. according to my brother in law he filled in 8 liters to the engine. does this mean that there was none left?
2. does that incident already inflict damage to the engine?
3. is there something that i need to worry or have to do or should i bring it back to the dealer for check-up?
4. granting the distance we travel based on the distance, the overheat indicator did not light including the oil and the pressure or whatever dashboard lights have indicated a warning during the drive, does this mean that the engine is ok?
5. after filling the engine, we did not have another drive as may be there is something serious we dont know. how can we tell if there is really a problem due to that oil spill?
6. lastly, if the cap is removed, does the engine usually eject the oil?
Thank you very much guys in advance for your answers and expert's advise.

I will second the motion raycon_24's suggestion.
Check the oil level and refill as necessary.

There's no need to open the cap unless you're adding oil to the engine. Use the dipstick to check the level.

happened to me also on our pajero... gasoline nga lang... after refilling oil, i forgot to put back the oil filler cap.... i drove about 40kms.....!! bago ko napansin... but there was no splashing or oil splatter on the engine cover or hood underside... napansin ko lang during the time na open filler cap, kasi nga gasoline eh parang kulang power ,, siyempre hindi maka vacuum kasi bukas cap...
i don't think anything serious happened to your ride bro,, hangat meh langis pa sa dipstick may protection pa rin engine,, what i would suggest is that you change your oil...
kasi the low level of oil accelerated the soot and degradation of the oil... because the cooling work of 7 liters was diminished...

I would seriously consider an oil change and have it flushed for good measure.
