Frankly, I don't know. But my position is to always use the recommended oil as stated in your owner's manual. If your manual doesn't require you to use synthetics, then don't. Dagdag gastos lang yan.
By the way, is your car a Starex CRDI? What does your manual say?

If hindi naman required I dont see the need for using full syn.
Unless you have a hydraulically activated electronic unit injector.
Which oil quality and consistency is critical. Like what Dieseldude has been explaining, the 4JX1 is a diferent type of fuel system which requires a specific type of oil. It has a rail/plenum but oil is being pressured and not fuel like most of the CRDI.

I saw one starex CRDi in Hyundai Alabang using Castrol Magnetec during oil change. Sabi ng mechanic ay ok daw yung magnetec dahil tahimik ang engine. Tried and tested na raw ng mga customer nila yun.
OT: sana yung TS(jackbauer) ay hindi utol ni Eddie Bauer. hehehe

On the power increase, on well-tuned engines with mods and tight tolerances there can be a power increase with synth.
For me, the main upside to using synth, esp. on a turbocharged engine, is protection as it lubes better during cold startups and is also less susceptible to break down under hard heat conditions.
I have a friend who's been using synth oil on his 1992 Sentra since he purchased it 2nd hand in the mid 90's (40K on the odo at that time); now it's ran well over 220K kms and his engine is still running healthy compression and has never been opened up.

boss dieseldude, though isuzu uses IGMO which is an SAE 40 (mono) many suggest that 15-40 is much better. is there an specific brand of diesel oil (15-40 multi) can you suggest for 4ja1 non-turbo? or as they said parehas lang basta same visco. thanks

January 17th, 2008 02:53 PM #10I just talked with a Hyundai service manager friend. He recommends 15-W40 multigrade oil from any of the big three: Petron, Shell, or Caltex. Synthetic is not necessary.
He also told me that all current Hyundai CRDI engines have catalytic converters. Very good emissions!!
alas, much as we might want to rely on our noses, we may not use our noses to do emissions...
LTO accredited emission testing centers
