Difference between gas fed and diesel fed engines

guys! tanong ko lang... ano ang difference ng gas fed at diesel fed engines? ano ang mga advantages at disadvantages lalo na pag suv ang ride? if given the same displacement ng engine... halimbawa, a 2.0 gas and a 2.0 diesel engine, ano mas mabilis magconsume ng fuel? yun gas ba or yun diesel?

Given equal displacements, mas malakas ang HP ratings ng Gas PARATI, but the diesel's would probably have more useable torque available at lower engine speeds.

Diesels consume less of a fuel that is cheaper than gasoline.

gas: smoother, faster-revving, higher redline, good power higher on the power band (usually, but gas engines with good low-end torque can be designed), faster response, uses more fuel, makes less noise and less vibration

diesel: generally noisier, vibrates more, fuel is cheaper, doesn't use as much fuel, produces max torque way down on the power band (more drivable in the city, and generally better for off-roading), requires more frequent oil changes, the engine itself is heavier, generally better-suited to water crossings (but the diesel engine will go kaboom quickly if water gets into a cylinder)

the disadvantages of the diesel engine are becoming less pronounced as technology matures... just look at the latest BMW and benz diesels

Gasoline engines tend to bog down when submerged in water or when run in flooded streets because of its ignition system which is used to fire the spark plugs which ignites the a/f mixture. Gasoline engines are also called "spark-ignition engines"

Diesel engines do not. Just dont let it ingest water. This is the reason why some diesel SUV owners put snorkel on their rides (assuming they go off-roading) In diesel engines the a/f mixture ignites due to two things 1) high compression pressure and 2) high temperature. Diesel engines are called "compression ignition engines"

diesel (assuming same displacement) - low engine top speed, high torque, lower horsepower output. result is low vehicle top speed but very good low speed (and thus offroad) performance.

gas (assuming same displacement) - high engine top speed, low torque, higher horsepower output. result is higher vehicle top speed but since engine torque is lower, low speed control is not as good as a diesel.

lower ang fuel consumption ng diesel on a km/liter basis for the same engine displacement.

but since diesel engines have generally lower horsepower ratings than gasoline engines this comparison for same engine displacement is not valid. what you should ask is the fuel consumption of a gasoline engine and a diesel engine with the same horsepower rating.

if yun mga european diesel engines na ang paguusapan wala na halos downside yun?? mabilis na, maskonti parts masisira, mas malakas torque, tahimik na din. yung akala ko diesel ang mawawala coz parang lo tech hehe other way around pala...dito kasi sa bandang atin medyo lag yung technology kaya ganun tingin ko.

another question mga bossing! Advisable din ba i-pang offroad ang gas fed na suv like yun exped? sa states ba, gas fed ang mga trucks nila, lalo na yun mga freighter trucks?

Pwede naman itakbo ang gas fed engine sa offroad trials. There's no law that I know of prohibiting it. Just make sure the electricals are waterproofed before disembarking on any given trail.
