June 10th, 2004 10:28 AM #1i read somewhere that diesel engines are better suited for flood-prone streets -- something about the engine being sealed, and thus no water damage(i.e. no tirik).
pwede po paki explain further?

June 10th, 2004 10:51 AM #2diesel engines are working under the 'compression-ignition' principle....meaning walang spark plugs and not dependent from battery to create an ignition inside the cylinder. it's the compression ratio (higher, usually 2x than 'injection-ignition' or gasoline engine) and the special characteristic of diesel fuel that makes a 'compression-ignition' process possible....ok, let me explain further....yung gasoline engine ang nag papaapoy ng fuel/air mixture ay yung power na nag-ignite sa spark plug na galing sa battery...sa diesel engine...walang battery power na ini-inject or walang spark plug na ginagamit para mag-ignite yung fuel/air mixture....sa diesel engine, ang air/fuel mixture ay kino-compress sa mas mataas na pressure at pag naabot yung flash point temperature ng diesel fuel...yung heat created by high compression will then automatically spark the ignition inside the cylinder...so yung ignition ng diesel ay independent sa battery or electrical power (coming from outside)...it's the condition inside the cylinder that causes the diesel fuel/air mixture to ignite...kaya nga pwedeng paandarin ang diesl sa tulak o hatak lang kasi once the fuel/air mixture is compressed inside the cylinder...pwede na mag ignite at mag start ng engine....yun din ang reason kung bakit sinasabi nila na ang engine pag uminit lalong lumalakas...tama yun pero to a certain temperature limit lang...pag sobrang init ng diesel engine di rin maganda at sasabog na....with this principle...ang diesel engine ang pinaka ideal sa flooded areas kasi nga yung ignition ay independent sa battery.

nadiscuss yan sa "How stuff works" =)
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question429.htm
basically... engines has less electricals sa fuel ignition/combustion system... gas engines has more which could be shortcircuited by water... pero pag pinasok ang diesel engine ng tubig... patay :freak: goodbye diesel engine ka na... gas engines buhay pa... basta maisuka nya lang yung tubig.

huhu bro yung XTO ko, pag mataas na flood...na tatamaan alternator...nag rered lahat ng indicators sa panel...and pag ahon nawawala na
nangyayari din ba sa inyo yon?

Jeepcruizerph: Hehe, given na yun.. siguro medyo mababa ang alternator mo, try mo sprayan ng WD40 yung LABAS ng connector mo to shield it from moisture somewhat. Pagnalubog ang mga connectors, dapat linisan mo ng contact cleaner para di mag corrode.

June 11th, 2004 09:27 AM #7e ung glow plugs, nasa *labas* ng engine/combustion chambers? But granted that you reach the right temp for combustion to occur, kahit masira ung somehow e ok ka na?

nag iisip na nga ako ng protective plate na pang cover...
i will do that later pag uwi ko sa work
thanks again

Glow plugs are only used when engine is pre-warmed before starting the engine. Pag mainit na ang makina bali wala na ito.

theveed thank you very much nagamit ko yung WD40 pagkauwi ko nilagyan ko yung mga connectors...ayun pagdating ng gabi bumaha sa amin and wala yung red lights hehe
tnx tnx again
