It has been discussed in other threads that a periodic muffler wash is good for removing soot and carbon deposits from the exhaust pipe of diesel-fed vehicles. The warning was that this should not be performed on a diesel vehicle that has a catalytic converter, such as the new Isuzu Trooper. My question therefore is is it better to stick with diesel vehicles that don't have the cat. converter installed, or does the presence of the converter outweigh the disadvantage of not getting a regular muffler wash?

mikey::: the ONLY advantage that a cat has is that youre not polluting the air as much as non-cat equipped versions. Catalytic converters rob you of HP and are expensive since they contain exotic metals such as platinum.

The answer to your question is a very personal one. Do you care for the environment enough to stick with a cat? Here in the PIs i guess the majority would answer no........ unfortunately for our lungs :|

Nagtanong ako minsan sa Nodalos regarding catalytic converters for diesel engines. Di daw siya nakakabawas ng black smoke. It only removes toxic gasses. They sell it for 14k per unit. I hope this helps.

thanks for the ideas, guys. i guess pushing for cleaner diesel fuel and following proper engine maintenance would do more good for the environment than a cat in the Phils.

i agree mikey. Tignan mo gobyerno, they dont even mandate that cat-converters be standard equipment :D All they have to do is say so.

badsekktor, ako honestly, di ko alam...in our case, wala pa naman kaming nama-muffler wash na may catalytic converter (panay PUJ kasi eh)...masama yata mabasa iyon eh kaya mukhang di pwede i-muffler wash...

meron nga akong nakita tungkol sa catalytic converters...di ko pa nababasa masyado:
