Wanted: oil change promo five kms from Heart Center to corner Kalayaan & V. Luna, or the area bound by Kalayaan, Kamias, Edsa, and East Avenue.

Thanks in advance for any useful information.

My home is in Malakas Street, behind the Heart Center in East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.

My last oil change was at Petron gas and service station in Quezon Avenue near National Bookstore as you drive from corner Araneta Avenue toward Edsa.

Because I used to pass by there often, but due to change of life's circumstances I no longer pass by there except rarely.

I think he wants to know if there's any place that offers cheap/promo for an oil change within 5 KM of his location.

The post really reads oddly though.

I have been driving and doing diy maintenance and repair of the cars I have ever owned and used in my lifetime since when I was 14 years old.

I never spent for luxuries for my car, but I keep it running all the time; I used to change oil myself and the filter -- no need to flush the engine with whatever gasoline or any cleaning fluid -- not advisable to rid the engine totally of oil however old to be replaced already.

But now I am in my latter 70's still active and healthy, but now prefer to let others do the dirty job like an oil change which requires me to jack up the car and go underneath, etc.

However, changing brake pads and brakes shoes, still no trouble for me because I don't have to go underneath the car.

Promos offered by service shops and gasoline stations are not necessarily supplying cheap oil and filter, they give you at least three choices; I usually opt for the middle choice, because that is already more than sufficient for my car's needs: since I am not using it for long hours and on high velocity.

    Cheers.

I just want to report here on my findings in the search for oil change promos.

The most economical oil change plus filter plus service the whole package is with Shell gas stations.

They have four packages for gasoline vehicles (presented here by myself in terms of prices):

    3,033 pesos
    1,765 pesos
    1,352 pesos
    888 pesos

The oil used in 888 pesos package is Helix Red.

    What is Helix Red oil?

It is a Shell produced synthetic oil that is described as good for
old engines; my engine is old, been running this car since 1977
when I got it brand new.

In my last oil change at Petron gas station in Quezon Avenue near
National Bookstore, I got their Ultron Touring oil package for
1,100 pesos, which is the middle of three packages.

It is supposed to be good for 7,500 kilometers or one year whichever
occurs earlier -- i.e. time to change.

Now, I have a package from Shell for 888 pesos which I understand
is good for the customary 5,500 kilometers or one year.

So, I will now try the Shell Helix Red oil for only 888 pesos plus filter plus service.

Since my last oil change with Petron Ultron Touring good for 7,500 kilometers,
which was on July 10, 2011, I have not yet run my car for not even 1,000
    kilometers yet.

As regards the rule to change oil every year, I read that this is not necessarily
to be observed religiously, because motor oils don't degrade in the course of time,
and impurities accumulated whatever are stopped by the oil filter.

    Cheers.

not all impurities are caught by the filter, especially with diesels... the soot is the enemy...

the more synthetic an oil is the better it will resist degradation.. but it will degrade.
oils which are not synthetic, degrade faster compared to synthetics due to the viscosity modifiers of the oil which is depleted by pressure and temperature...

My concern is to save money: I am a retired professor living now on my savings and my pittance SSS pension -- and hope that they last me until my last expense in the hospital -- plus the funeral and burial.

any gas station with a service bay can do oil changes. for mineral oils expect to spend about 1200 in oil and labor.

however, another option is go to an auto supply, buy oil and filter there and ask their tambay mechanic to do the oil change for 200 pesos

At Fuji auto supply along Kamias Road, ask for Mang Dick. He can do basic maintenance and repairs and you can buy parts at the auto supply. Basta hindi modern cars na matrabaho or masikip yung engine bay, he's okay.

    And he services taxis.
