FRANKFURT — German car makers continued to be plagued by problems related to faulty diesel injection pumps produced by Robert Bosch on Tuesday with companies such as DaimlerChrysler and BMW saying they were having temporarily to halt production.
A DaimlerChrysler spokesman said production at its main German production site, the Mercedes factory in Sindelfingen, would be shut down next Monday and Tuesday as a result of the problem, which affects fuel pumps made in December and January.
“There were will be no output at all at Sindelfingen,” which employs 32,000 persons and builds 2,000 Mercedes C, E and S classes a day, he said.
Bosch, the biggest maker of car parts in the world, said it hoped to solve the problem quickly.
“We expect to find a solution to the problem quickly,” a Bosch spokesman said.
Last week, Mercedes' main rival, luxury car maker BMW, also said it would have close its factory in Dingolfing, which was to have been shut down anyway for the carneval holiday next week for an additional three days.
And on Tuesday, BMW said it would recall around 13,000 cars affected by the fuel pump problem.
BMW was considering whether to take compensatory action against Bosch.
“We'll first resolve the problem and then see who has to pick up the tab,” BMW chairman Helmut Panke said.
Audi, a unit of Volkswagen, also said it was suffering from bottlenecks.

March 11th, 2005 09:26 AM #5affected are those supplied to BMW and Daimler during december and january and all of them are in europe meaning to say this won't reach the Philippines in the next 5 years or if ever they release it here.
those found on japs are made by bosch sister company in japan, zexel formerly diesel kiki [no pun intended].
just keep your fuel filter clean and you're good to go. traces of dirt in fuel can easily void warranties.
