    Can anyone explain what egr does and what good it will do by blocking it? Read in sone of the threds in the forum that it will do more good than harm to your engine when you block it.....

    sir KC yung sa akin na strada at paj parehong blocked egr na. Old school kasi kaya walang problem. Sa mga CRDi unit ibang usapan na at sure na may engine warning yan since kasama yan sa monitoring ng ECU.

    Sa old school kasi, dpat sa idle lang yan magwork pero kapag matagal na, stuck-up na. Puwede linisan if ok pa or alitan ng bago if sira na talaga. Sa akin, condemned na lang. No problem, bawas pa smoke at bawas contaminants going into the engine.

    blocking off the egr will do more harm than good sa ating environment. the egr helps in cooling down the exhaust ng sasakyan to reduce NOx emission (very harmful). kaya yan nandyan ay para pangalagaan ang ating environment.BTW it should not work at idle otherwise magiging erratic ang idling ng sasakyan.

    Yan nakalagay sa manual at sa mga forums. EGR is designed for idling to reduce NOX nga. Kung minimal idling lang naman, it's worth it IMO. Mas ok pa rin nga kung palitan na lang.

    lets clarify somethings first

    EGR- exhaust gas recirculation

    Because NOx forms primarily when a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen is subjected to high temperature, the lower combustion chamber temperatures caused by EGR reduces the amount of NOx the combustion generates(from wikipedia)

    sa loob ng combustion chamber mainit at mataas ang pressure... pag pasok ng hangin(air with oxygen and nitrogen components) together with fuel(either petrol or diesel) plus spark, magkakaroon ng combustion(pagsabog sa loob ng cylinder) one by product is NOx(nitrous oxide) which is harmful to most life forms(kasama mga tao), the greater the temperature(inside the cylinder) the higher the NOx that will be produce. unfortunately dahil modern times tau, we are using electronic controlled fuel and air delivery system( varied and air and fuel ratio according sa need ng vehicle) it will result again into higher NOx..

    kaya naimbenta ang EGR, yung exhaust gases coming from the combustion process na papunta na sana sa labas ng tambutso gets recycled( a portion of the gases). it will be sucked and brought to the combustion chamber again to reduce the temperature. pag stable and temperature, ang NOx emission is reduced.

    nitrogen +oxygen+high temp combustion=high NOx
    nitrogen +oxygen+high temp combustion+ EGR= tolerable NOx

    sa mga bagong vehicles, the valve that controls the amount of gases recirculated back is controlled and monitored by the ECU according to the demands of the vehicle.. in short mahirap paki-alamanan!

    kapag CRUISING KA (around 60-80kph) the EGR is working at its best... why? because constant ang engine load so predictable ang amount of exhaust gas to be recirculated(LEAN BURN).. so the vehicle does not need so much oxygen or air that is.. therefore pag idle ka the EGR valve is fully closed.

    kapag umaarankada ka o paahon o humahataw ka ng takbo the ECU will close the EGR valve to allow more oxygen to be burned.. when the engine needs more power , it needs more volume of air containing oxygen so the EGR will be closed off to provide a rich oxygen environment.. kaya pag mabilis takbo you are polluting the environment more..

    IDLE= EGR closed.
    CRUISING SPEEDS= EGR open
    ACCELERATION/LOAD= EGR closed

    in other countries it is illegeal to close EGR. kung luma sasakyan mo its forgivable, kase it will benefit the vehicle..

    in the long run, EGR is a primary cause of Gunk and dirt inside the engine.

    NOx = smog. if you like a smoggy metro then go ahead block your egr. if you want cleaner air then please do what is needed, and that is to keep your car properly maintained.

    Here is the real deal with EGR valve, they only work like they are supposed to when they are new, once they gunk up your engine it completely negates any gains it would have made by being in place.

    Why you ask because of the carbon and soot build up increases the exhaust gas temps inside the engine increasing the NOX.

    Any that can look at you with a strait face and say this is helping reduce emissions is only going by the theory of how the system works and not what it actually does to the inside of the engine. Unless you do a full intake manifold and intake tract cleaning including the EGR valve. The only thing that can help you is adding a oil catch can. With low quality fuel and low quality fuel and oil filters it makes the clogging and reduced function of these happen.

    So if your not going to pony up the money for the full intake tracked cleaning your better off deleting the EGR because it is actually making the engine run dirtier making pollution worse. So either maintain it or loose it is how I see the EGR. Most of these will be blocked already via the build up of harden soot and carbon and oil so they are not working to begin with. They really need to be cleaned completely yearly. If you have a 10 year old diesel engine and you have never had it cleaned, you can bet it's not even opening or is completely blocked off already.

    To many base stuff on theory vs real world facts. And what I stated is the facts.

    I did add an oil catcg can to minimizee the dirt stuff that goes back to the engineg, wiill regular cleaning of the egr lead to permanent damage to the egr components...( Disassemble, cleaning, diassemble).......with regards to blocking it, will i get any improvement on my engine or am i just polluting the environment more?
