January 1st, 2010 08:55 AM #1my car suddenly stopped with no power after a strange sound na parang bakal sa engine. ayaw magstart, no power at all parang nashutoff ng cpu. after a few minutes umandar butr with a metal sound na tumatalsik sa loob ng engine kaya pinatay ko agad and had it towed sa casa. binaba nila oil pan and saw a bolt sa pan. sabi galing sa balancer and they have to replace the balancer na defective. ok naman andar niya after. my question is may nadamage kata sa loob ng makina? sabi ng mechanic wala naman daw tama sa taas. what's a balancer for? saan situated ito? is this near the timing belt area kaya wala tama sa loob? medyo worried ako baka may mga tama sa loob ng engine like metal chips.

A balancer is a weighted shaft which is meant to reduce vibrations from the engine. The engine will operate normally even without the balancer in place but with expected increased vibrations.

January 1st, 2010 06:00 PM #5thanks for the replies. it's a chevy captiva vcdi with 39k on the odo. sakop pa ng warranty kaya replaced ng casa for free. was thinking though na replace na lang sana ng buong unit kasi under warranty pa and this could be a factory defect sa assembly. kahit engine lang sana palitan para meron ako piece of mind. the problem though is we don't have a lemon law.
