    hi,

ok lang ba ang approach na to? so far kasi maayos naman ang crosshatches sa cylinder walls even at 80,000 km.

kung baga rings lang ang papalitan ko?

Sukatin mo muna ung ring clearance against the bore, pag within limits pa pede pa yan palitan ng standard rings. Kung malaki na, papalitan mo na ng oversized ring dun ka na mag hohoning.

anytime you replace your piston rings regardless of the condition of the cylinder walls, you need to hone the cylinder bore. if the cross hatch marks are still present, most likely the bore is within 0.001" within tolerance. the reason for honing is to provide a small amount of surface roughness to seat the rings similar to lapping your valves. when the valves were machined and the valve seats were machined, they were perfect in concentricity but you still had to lap them since they are mating surfaces that must be air tight and liquid tight. the honing of the cylinder walls reduces the break in time for the new rings. also, do not add any additive that contains molybdenum, teflon or anti friction additives, they will just prolong your break in time

is it alright to just replace the piston rings w/o rehoning?
