    Any idea why is it may mga plug in volt meter na may naka note na When engine running (do not drive),the LED dispaly: like the one on this ad?

    Na-confuse din ako nung unang basa ko. Ibig nya sabihin, pag bukas engine mo, eto yung mareread nung volt meter tapos pag patay, yung mas mababa naman.

    Hirap intindihin ng ad nya na minsan ma misinterpret mo pa na bawal ba yan habang tumatakbo car?

    Naghahanap lang ako ng makakalikot over the weekend, just saw this para shortcut sana kaso parang feel ko rin yung naka panel

    i think it means, the gadget is for reading battery voltage and not alternator voltage.
    with the engine not running, the gadget reads battery voltage, which goes lower than 12 volts as the battery gets weaker.
    with the engine running, the gadget will read not the battery's output, but the alternator's output (of at least 13 something volts), thus giving you the mistaken impression that your battery is strong even as it is about to die if not yet dead.
    but if the alternator is defective, then, with the engine running, the gadget will register a lower voltage...

    chinese translators are sometimes entertaining..

    when the key is in the "on position" the meter should be displaying 12 (12 volt) pure battery power and when you crank/started the engine(but you are idle hence not driving), it should display a higher voltage than 12 but not more than 14(12 volt)

    it shows the voltage of the alternator when your engine is started and your battery voltage when your car key is on the "on position"

    when your driving the volt meter must display 13-14 volt reading(it means your alternator is good and not withdrawing the battery of your car)

    24volt are for heavy duty trucks

    by the way when you use that plug and play volt meter, it should be inserted on the main car plug(in the front dashboard) without any other gadgets or extension plugged in so you may have an accurate reading

    forgot to add if it is reading more than 14 on a 12v car it means your battery is being over charge and it might explode or overheat your electrical system

    hi, please enlighten me: i have this kind of cig plug volt meter bought at concorde. true, it reads at 11.9v-12.1v before ignition; though when idle, it reads between 14.1v-14.5v. thus i'm a bit worried about the overcharging and overheating. kindly clarify. thanks

    14.5 is a bit high especially for AGM types. Those plugins have large deviation from real voltage, add to that cig plugs contacts may become loose. If you want to be sure, use a Fluke tester or some lab-calibrated tester as reference voltage.

    Most of us wont have access to a lab calibrated tester. But I agree that those plug in types are not 100% accurate. Best to get a tester and check the voltage at the battery.
