    hi,

    how do you remove the oxidation in the distributor cap contacts? hindi naman grabe ang pag-aasin (namumuti) ng points, pero i wanted it gone. i dont have cracks in the cap. i just wanted the oxidation removed.

    is there a way to remove this besides sandpaper method?

    after sanding spray it with WD-40. excellent as well in battery terminals. it's a pretty good insulator.

    here are some about WD-40.

    What does WD-40 do?

    WD-40 fulfills five basic functions:

    Haven't tried to use WD40 on it. However, normally, I use very fine sandpaper on it. Afterwhich, I wipe/clean with dry cloth....

    Kung emergency minsan at walang sandpaper,- you can scrape the oxidation off using a flat screwdriver.....

    Replacement / transparent ba distributor cap mo? or still the OEM? Based on my experiences back days, replacement distributor caps (clear / transparent) contacts tend to corrode faster than the OEM (colored red orange). it’s because the contacts are made of copper whereas those from replacements were made of steel. Madali siyang magputi-puti parang kup*1.

    Sikwat style done by manong mechanics will remove the rust build up temporarily but masyadong matalim ang screwdriver, nauuka yung contacts. IMO fine sandpaper ang solusyon + WD-40. even sa coil, spark plugs okay ito.

    contactless ang distributor ko. pickup coil ang ginagamit. ang ignition coil, built in sa loob ng assembly. mitsubishi cei type. my cap is still the original which came from the factory 8 years ago.

    Just to revive this thread because of the weather higher probability of corrosions, Brought the truck to Reys cubao yesterday braving typhoon Maring, changed battery clamp put a jacket in the positive some wires and added some grease. So far so good.
