March 13th, 2012 03:10 PM #1I have this old Mitsubishi Lancer EL 1996 carb 4G15 engine. I feel that fuel on cylinder were not properly burnt by its Distributor w/ built-in Ignition coil. The original distributor can only generate 20KV high voltage and single spark per cylinder only.
So I decide to build this CDI. I still use the original distributor and magnetic pickup for its exciter ic.
This CDI have 6 spark per firing on each cylinder with 30KV high spark voltage . Multiple HV spark gradually decrease down to 2 spark at high rpm.
Here the youtube video of my project.
Note: maximum current of CDI was 1.5Amp compared to the original exciter or transistor driven ignition coil charging system. That is, ignition coil was a lot colder than the original. Overheating ignition coil tends to decrease its high voltage output.

Choice I would have made as well.
