    Good day fellows!

Ikonsulta ko lang po ang problema sa sasakyan namin. Here it goes. Ahemmm: May vintage military jeep kc byenan ko e ako ang tagapagalaga kapag andun s bahay. Ginamit namin one sunday to the market.bago ko ipasok sa garahe e pinapalamig ko muna makina (i.e. buhos tubig sa radiator). habang pinapalamig e bigla bigla ba namang namatay. pinapaandar ko e ung tunog ng starter e parang d nya kayang paikutin flywheel. tumutunog busina at umiilaw ang lahat ng lights. so unang troubleshoot ko e starter. so i disconnected d starter and have it repaired s shop. after the starter repair, maganda na redondo ng starter pero ayaw pa rin umandar. so i concluded na buhay pa baterya. i checked din kung may kuryente s contact points. kulay bluish ang nagjujump s contact point. then nung nahagip ng kamay ko ung ignition coil e may kainitan na halos masusunog ba kamay ko kapag tumagal ng 3 seconds sa init. now my question is, could the ignition coil be the problem? normal ba na maginit ng husto ung coil?fellow tsikoteers kindly share your knowledge and experience. as much as possible kc e i make the repairs at the highest degree of economy kaya i consult sa mga kakilala ko or any group bago dalhin s mekaniko if major repair ang kelangan.. yun lng po.sensya na napakahaaabaaaaaaaa.hehe...nga pala, the engine is ung 2.2 liter Go Devil gas engine na foot switch ang start.kindly help lng po.

Ignition coils, by the nature of their operation, can get quite warm during operation. I'm not too familiar with vintage jeeps, but ignition coils on some gasoline vehicle models can get hot to touch during normal operation.

It may or may not be normal in your case. However, a hot ignition coil could be a symptom of a problem and may also cause problems:

It can indicate that you are using the wrong ballast resistor, or no resistor at all. This causes too large of a current passing through the primary winding of the coil during its charging in between firing. It can also indicate a fault somewhere else in the ignition system. It can also happen if you've left the ignition switch in the "ON" position too long without cranking the engine - di nagfa-fire yung coil so laging may charging current na dumadaan. Posible ring faulty yung coil mismo - could be shorted or something.

Heat alters properties of electrical components as well. In the ignition coil, this can affect the resistance a lot. If the coil gets too hot, it can stop working altogether and cause the engine to stall. And obviously, a hotter ignition coil will also have a shorter life.

Check mo if you have a resistor connected in series with the coil's primary.

Check mo rin yung gap ng contact point. If it's too small hindi nadi-discharge properly yung coil.

Also, do you have a CDI electronic ignition box installed? Those things can dump a lot of energy into the primary winding of the coil, causing a larger amount of heat relative to points and TCI systems.

Otherwise, if there are no problems, it might just be normal na ganyan kainit yung coil mo, at least for that particular case.

good day mga sirs at salamat s inyong mga abiso. sir alpha one, ung electricals nya is ung original pa rin. old school ba. maybe the cdi you are referring is the condenser inside the distributor kc d b ung condnser is the capacitor that stores the energy when contact points open.nakabili n ako ng replacement n ignition coil at ung condenser.il try to fix it this wikend kc dko rin madala s mekaniko at d rin me makahanap ng mekaniko na dun s bahay gagawin. been always with diesels kc at ngaun lng uli nakahawak ng gas engine. worst case scenario n lng e itotow ko ung jeep.goodluck sakin.hikhik
