this is a set of questions about spark plugs...i want to diy all the things that i can diy with my car...i hope the gurus here can help me..TIA

+ how would you know when to clean or replace plugs?

+ when you found out that you need to change the plugs, what would be the best choice? e.g. brand of plugs, etc (my ride is a lancer 1.3)

+ after choosing the right plugs, how would you if a certain brand of plug is genuine?

TIA po sa lahat ng mag rereply...all responses will be higly appreciated!

Sabi sa kin ng tekno sa casa, check the spark plugs every oil change. Syempre pag madumi linisin, but if the fouling is unusual, the culprit must be corrected. Sa website ng NGK, Champion spark plugs, etc meron silang downloadable technotes about 'sparkplug diagnosis'.

But with electronically controlled engine system, di na yata ako nag lilinis ng spark plugs wala namang unusual fouling, change na lang every two or three years together with the HT cables and distributor cap.

NGK G-Power nga pala SP ko. Platinum type sya * P150 each last June 05', and I can say sulit na sulit talaga.

normally OEM speced spark plugs are changed every 10,000 kms. you will know when to clean or replace them by looking at the tip. kung pulpol na o medyo maitim na, time to replace. i would not recommend cleaning, but instead, recommending replacing using STOCK SPECED PLUGS. Mura lang naman yun. It costs around 75 pesos each (or 300 pesos for the whole set).

For your Lancer, stick to stock. NGK brands are ok. No need for you to use platinum or iridium tipped plugs. baka magbago pa takbo ng makina mo, sayang lang ang pera.

How would you know if it is genuine? Get it from shops which sell genuine parts.

Unless your car came with stock platinum or iridium plugs. In which case you need to get them. What I'm saying is stick to stock plugs, for normal driving, and you'll be fine.

But if you have a heavily modified engine, then that another story

a lancer 1.3, i assume is either a Lancer EL Singkit or a Lancer EL itlog (yun lang naman ang lumabas na 1.3 na lancer eh). in which case, it came with the stock NGK 5BPS spark plugs.
