    need help fellow tsikoteers,

i am planning to have my alternator changed this saturday with a higher amp rating. i noticed lately na nag-didim yung lights ko whenever i turn on the stereo at night and mahina charging niya sa battery ko (the guys at the motolite shop i visited confirmed this). san kaya merong ok na shop na nagbebenta at nag-iinstall ng surplus na alternator? me mairerecommend ba kayo mga pare?

    thanks.

Why not go for a second opinion, baka po sign lang yan ng mahinang battery?

ano ba yung ride mo? meron mga considerations kasi yan. Baka nga mahina lang battery o dapat paltan. Have a battery shop (2 or 3) check kung nagcha-charge pa yung alternator mo. Kung hindi na all the shops will show you this. Pag mahina na then they will have to overhaul your alternator. Sa Rey's sa Tuazon(Marikina) 450 ang labor then you have to pay for the carbon brushes and bearings (which is better to replace). Di kasama dyan kung sira yung mga rectifiers coz alternators produce AC current and the rectifiers convert this to DC. How many amps ba yung alternator mo? The other day I asked, yung 85 amps nila is around 6800. But that's for an alternator with the pump sa likod. HTH!

i would second Ungas opinion....i think there is no such thing na hihina ang alternator mo when it was doing well before.....UNLESS you have added a lot of power consuming devices na hindi naman installed sa oto mo before...example dating walang power windows...tapos pinalagyan mo...o kaya ang sound set-up mo eh pang high-end na higop sa koryente.

It is also possible din na sira lang ang voltage regulator (or VR IC kung modelo) kaya it doesn't seem to charge well.

Most alternator pag nasira would have about 2 major problems:

    1) worn out brush - which is cheap to replace
    2) worn out bearings and cause the rotor na sumayad at sumira ng coil or rotor - pagganito mas okay na magpalit.

I got my 90 Amp surplus alternator ng nissan altima for P600 about 3-4 years ago...I used it to replace a 40 Amp stock alternator ng nissan sunny pick-up ng erpats ko. I believe the price range is still the same. And kung the same ang maker (like nissan to nissan), you have a good chance that the mounting brackets will fit the standard location. It is best to bring the old alternator when you buy a replacement. Also ask for a "warranty" to replace if it is faulty din.

my ride is a corolla 96 gli a/t. i guess it's not the battery coz the last time na nagpalit ako ng battery is october 2003. cguro nga the alternator doesn't need to be replaced, repair lang kailangan. do u know of a shop within lp/makati/evangelista/pque (or even banawe?) from lp kc ako, layo kc ng marikina.

    thanks!

Hard to tell, some batteries do last upto 6months only. Which can be returend from where it was purchased and discount on your next purchase based on warranty.

Any additional electrical load that you have added recently? Upgrading headlight bulbs, sound system drain and etc. should be taken into consideration. You may need to upgrade your stock alternator to supply the current drain.
