Can someone confirm this that it is said if you accidentaly locked your car keys with the remote inside the car you can ask someone who is holding the spare remote in a different location or such as your house to disengage it via cellphone? Meaning you can make the frequency travel thru the cellphone? Is this true? I tested it with my alarm does not work some said works on other brand of alarms

i was a witness when my colleagues tried it. it did work with the given environment.

what one of my colleague did was walk away from the car until he can't open his car anymore with the remote keys. he then called my other colleague and had him put his cellphone near the car's hood. it did not work when he placed the cellphone at the car's door, but it did work when it was placed near the hood.

it was not really a controlled environment for me to say that this "truly" works. i am just giving an account of what happened, and maybe the distance that my colleague walk to is somewhere where the signal could be intermittent.

let me try this myself and give another feedback.

car remotes use radio signals. although, cellphones also use radio signals (since technically, a cellphone is actually a radio) but i believe its of a different (higher) frequency.

    its probably a myth.

although, my officemates use their Palms' infrared to control TVs and aircons

It could also be that the close proximity of the cellphone to the transmitter turned it into a booster antenna.

For this myth to be proven, you have to do out of visual range. Simply, a cellphone will only transmit sound waves from the speaker... not radio waves. So, unfortunately, it's not possible.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

To the threadstarter: I have an answer for that, *some vehicles* equipped with On Star (in the US) or similar services that can automatically unlock the vehicle if you make a call and identify yourself as the owner basically state that yes, you can unlock the car with your cell phone, and the signal is provided by somebody you called who unlocks it for you.

AFAIK On Star doesn't use the cell phone itself but the device is installed in the car uses satellite and cellular technology to communicate with the vehicle. Which is why unless On Star is activated even if the caller has a cell phone they cannot unlock the door.
