A few days ago, I started to randomly see shorts and reels in my feed about relocating the 12V battery to the trunk. They claimed that this dramatically extended the battery life up to 7-8 years before needing replacement. This was because it wasn't exposed to engine heat.

Too bad this design choice isn’t as common outside of European cars.

Brings back memories of our old VW Beetle which had the battery under the rear seats. Fire hazard nga lang because the springs of the rear seat can cause shorting. Had to place a rubber mat on top of the battery.

Interesting that older Mini Coopers had their batteries in the trunk but later models had them in the engine compartment.

    I checked the history:
     Oct 2023 – installed a 220V 200-watt inverter (this is connected/inserted into the car’s 12-volt outlet). Daily used.
 Late last year, installed two mini fans sa backseat passengers, with 3 settings (low, medium, high). Connected to the inverter’ USB ports. Seldom used.

I noticed also that a day before the battery died, while I was driving and using the inverter, the inverter turns off by itself. Turned it on but turns off by itself again after a while. I remember sa packaging, there was info about if it falls below a certain voltage, the inverter will automatically turn off. It seems it is too much for the alternator to charge the battery, while providing power to aircon use + other accessories. Although I did not see the car battery icon flash on the dash board display.

The inverter (which was plugged in) draws power even when not in use (idle). That additional load could have contributed to the shorter life span of the battery.
