February 7th, 2014 11:14 AM #1Mga sir, ok lang ba mag-upgrade ng high ampere alternator for honda stock engine like ph12? Will it only have good effects or may disadvantages din? TIA

maybe a bit of engine power will be sacrificed kasi your engine
will be spinning an alternator with a bigger capacity.
pero baka neglible din naman.

February 7th, 2014 12:59 PM #4if you won't be needing the extra power the new alternator will provide ... it is just a waste of money

IMO.. the bigger the better.. done that on my van... from 95amperes to 140amperes...
Fuel consumption, power... no change at all... the same lang...

Either kung mas malaki ung alternator or mas maliit compared sa rating ng engine ay wala din mangyayari if you dont change or upgrade your engine. What i mean is hindi ba match dapat alternator sa size ng engine? Mas malaki nga alternator mo pero ung engine mo could only give this much. Just an analogy.

February 25th, 2014 12:04 PM #9Or in other words..
Waste of energy to rotate the huge generator.

For all other purposes, yes. Since you try to mate the output with how much load you throw at it. It's kinda useless to have an alternator capable of 300A when you can only generate 30A of power. That's like feeding your car's engine with a fuel running up a Zesto straw.
However, this is not a problem in a car since your car's internal combustion engine can output so much horsepower. If you want to do it at a very simplistic view, 150A * 12V = 1,800W = 2.41 horsepower -- a minute amount on how much horsepower you generate at a given engine RPM.
This is why the people who set up their sound setup extensively (aka me) sees reduced fuel efficiency. One is that an ICE system will take up weight inside your car and second it makes your alternator demand more power depending on load. This is why overall, I suffer a rough -1km/L automatically on my day-to-day travels.
