February 7th, 2014 11:14 AM #1Mga sir, ok lang ba mag-upgrade ng high ampere alternator for honda stock engine like ph12? Will it only have good effects or may disadvantages din? TIA

maybe a bit of engine power will be sacrificed kasi your engine
will be spinning an alternator with a bigger capacity.
pero baka neglible din naman.

February 7th, 2014 12:59 PM #4if you won't be needing the extra power the new alternator will provide ... it is just a waste of money

IMO.. the bigger the better.. done that on my van... from 95amperes to 140amperes...
Fuel consumption, power... no change at all... the same lang...

kinyo here is correct.
Thread: It is useless unless you plan on using the extra power. Your stock alternator was designed with your stock electrical system in mind. If it's rated 70A, then it's highly unlikely you'll be using more than 70A without changing anything.
Newer vehicles nowadays have higher-rated alternator amperes thanks to more complex electrical systems. Electrical power steering, heated seats, etc. means that 110A or more is pretty much standard for anything costing more than a million pesos.
Wires: The purpose of a wire is to carry current from point A to point B. Getting a thicker wire will simply reduce the flowing electrical resistance. Different wire sizes are rated to handle different ampere ratings. There's not much of a point in trying to get 0GA wires for your windshield wiper relay for example.
My take is not to touch the existing electrical wiring in the car unless you think something's wrong (ex. oxidized wiring is causing you problems)
Tidbit: Alternator ampere rating is simply the maximum capacity. How much power it'll be giving at a certain RPM differs. Some alternators supply a huge amount of power initially and scale it a bit at higher RPMs while some alternators supply a small/medium amperes and scale it better at higher RPMs. Parang horsepower and torque graphs lang sila ;)
