Lahat ng locally sold Vitaras ay 4x4. I don't know about later models, but all the early models were imported from Japan.

Not for the average driver though....some imagination and resourcefulness required...and that's the fun part of owning a "Faroza" ....

    novice:
sigurado ka ba sa sinasabi mo? ;)

    lako:

Honestly, it's not a very good car, for the price madami ka naman makukuhang iba... Layo nyan sa Vitara or something...

Fuel vapors also leaks into the cabin due to stupid breather hose placement.

Yung isang kamaganak namin (matanda na), weird medyo, bought a bnew 97 Feroza dati, sobrang binebaby, as in he uses his F150 and Corolla all the time, but the Feroza nakagarahe at cover lang... Needless to say, nung ibebenta na nung 2004, nasa 12K palang nasa odo, they still couldn't get a good price on it...

Parang Volvo lang iyan. Everyone says there are no parts for it and mechanics don't even want to touch it. Hindi nga lang mainstream like Toyota or Honda.

There is still one BRAND NEW [old stock] Feroza. It is at the old Casa Ciudad Daihatsu dealership along Quezon Ave (near Welcome). The unit is unsold and has not been used. The paper tags on the rearview mirror and a/c are still there. The unit is full of dust, though. And when I asked if they were willing to sell it, they had no plans daw. Though they did give me an original Feroza brochure (vintage!).

My ninong also has a Feroza which he rarely uses. He is not fond of driving. He lives in Sampaloc and holds practice in UST. He just uses it to and from UST. When he has somewhere else to go, he takes a cab. The unit is practically brand new. Baka pwede kong hingiin as aginaldo pag nagsawa siya. hehehe.

I've driven one. Unless you have any intentions of going off-road, I wouldn't get one. The clutch is as heavy as a Land Rover Defender's. The engine wails at almost any speed due to the short (off-road oriented) gearing. The ride is bumpy. Suspension design is similar to a GEN I Pajero but the wheelbase is really short. Even the interior looks like a GEN I Pajero.

I did like the tilting/removable sunroof. The Feroza also looks kinda cool in its own way. Btw, dalawa ang Feroza. The first ones and the later face-lifted ones. Initial units were CBU from Japan. As for the facelifted ones, I'm not so sure.

ok naman feroza e. hinihiram ko dati sa gf ko yung feroza nila. so far, ok naman sa akin. nakakatakot lang yung tunog nung makina on acceleration. kala mo mangangain ng sasakyan sa kalsada. ika-nga, SYENTO-BIENTE. syento ang tunog, biente takbo. pero gusto ko interior nya. old-school talaga with matching aft (tama ba?) and roll sa dash. kulit pa nung tilting roof. tagtag nga lang. and na-experience ko dati nung nagpakabit ako fog lights sa banawe, may sumisigaw ng "PARUSA,PARUSA" from afar. bw!set na yun!

What are these Daihatsu Feroza / Daihatsu Rocky / Daihatsu Sportrak cars you speak of?"

They are extremely well built utilitarian 4WD vehicles produced by Daihatsu. The phrase 'Toyota Quality' comes to mind; as Toyota Motor Corporation had one third of the controling share of Daihatsu since 1967, and made Daihatsu a subsidiary in 1999. Initial sales in the USA weren't as successful as places like Australia, where it sold it's first passenger vehicle. The Daihatsu Rocky / Feroza / Sportrack has become a very sought after offroading vehicle with a cult like following.

The company was formed in 1907 as the Osaka Motor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. selling under the name Daihatsu or Tsubasa. In 1951 they officially changed their name to Daihatsu Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha.

    Courtesy of Wikipedia:

"The Daihatsu Rocky was a small SUV produced in Japan from 1987 to 1998. The first generation was sold from 1987 to 1993, with a SOHC or DOHC 1.6 L engine. It was sold in the United States from 1988 through 1992 when Daihatsu was available in the continent, but sales were extremely poor. In Europe and Australia, where the car was more popular, it was called Daihatsu Feroza, as Rocky was used for the bigger Rugger/Fourtrak.

The second generation was introduced in 1993 but differed little from the original model, retaining the same chassis and engine, although the old SOHC 8-valve was dropped. Power was 95 hp DIN (70 kW). Italian company Bertone built a variation powered by the BMW M40 engine, with 100 hp (74 kW), called the Bertone Freeclimber II. The Rocky/Feroza was replaced in 1998 by the Terios."

There are cars that you drive to work and to the supermarket
to the hills, through the waters to play...and there are cars
that have become more than that: a faithful companion that is a
    part of your life.
i got my ferosa may 23, 2005. now its been with my for a yr. napa overhaul ko na, pati aircon palit na compressor, so far so good, am happy. its been my daily drive [hirap kasi linisan yung isang puti na honda city e].
may parts! tiyaga lang. nakahanap ako ng parts to complete the overhaul sa may malapit sa amin sa valenzuela

Sir, I'm a new owner of a '90 Feroza. Got it last May. It has become quite a hobby fixing her up. Isa-isa lumalabas mga sakit niya. Wear and tear, most probable reason. Pero it's pretty exhausting.

So far, ito na napagawa ko simula nung when I got her:

    - Radiator overhaul
    - Hose replacement (upper, then lower)
    - Rotor replacement
    - High Tension Wire replacement
    - Spark plugs
    - Lav Ra Mon cooling system flush
    - Fan belt change

Right now, medyo nadadala ko na siya from A to B, compared nung when I first got it. But laging di lumalagpas ng 1 week, may bagong sakit nanaman. And earlier today, nag-overheat nanaman ako. turns out, I have a busted crankshaft pulley.

    Thanks guys.
