Big difference between Jaguar/LR and MG is that the former are still designed by the Brits and mostly built in Britain, while MG is purely designed and built by the Chinese.

Net, MG is only British by name but Chinese everywhere else. Jaguar, LR and Volvo are just foreign-funded but still keep their European roots.

    i agree, i own one.

but there are other owners out there that cannot understand the economics of it.... to the point that they've done ala mini cooper styling and putting all those crappy brit arse flag and emblems all over the cars- no difference from those who style their jeepneys and trikes.

shout out to the idiot wigo exit amorsolo who had this silly fender flares and did not give way to the emergency service vehicle (ambulance), you ara a put-a.

That is confusing. MG still has offices in the UK, technical headquarters if I recall correctly. As for Volvo, Jaguar, et al, they are now fully China owned are they not? (like MG). Pls elucidate further.

MG was a resurrected badge slapped on everything Nanjing & SAIC. Volvo, Jag & Rover? Ford tossed them to their current owners now... but have generally retained their respective identities.

For one, there are no MG plants in the UK, everything is made in China. Land Rover is still mostly built in the UK, Volvo is still mostly built in Sweden.

Second, while the Longbridge facility still exists as a research center, their cars are designed jointly with Shanghai. You have a few British employees but the vast majority of MG's employees are in China. Again, this is different from the likes of Volvo which still have over 60% of employees in Sweden.

Third, the cars are very, very different in identity now than they were with the original MG brand which rose to prominence with roadsters and coupes. Today, they essentially make mass-market econoboxes with low price points. In contrast, Land Rover still makes luxury 4x4s, Volvo still keeps its premium heritage rooted heavily on safety.

Ultimately, Jaguar and Land Rover retained their British spirit even after they were sold to Tata (and Ford before that). Volvo retains its Swedish roots even after the Geely acquisition (and again Ford before that). MG is a completely different marque now than it was 2 decades ago - one that is heavily influenced by its parent company, SAIC.

MG just overtook Kia in sales, in the same year that Ayala fully helmed local distribution, too.

Never thought that would happen, actually, and so soon too.

It's not just Kia that's underperforming. VW has tanked greatly, Maxus hasn't taken off as well as Geely/MG. Even Isuzu and Honda have posted declining sales vs last year. Poor AC Industrials.

Poor Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel. All from Wuhan.

Also Apple iPhones should be banned here because they are made in china and infected with "bat flu" , etc.. (pun, and fun, intended )

So far I think the MG Hector version of the Baojun 530 is only sold in India, perhaps because Chevrolet (GM) pulled out of India.

In China, SAIC-GM-Wuling's compact SUV is called the Baojun 530, in export markets it's known as the Chevrolet Captiva and the RHD Indian market version is the MG Hector.

Perhaps we might get the Chevrolet-badged version? I guess it's up to TCCCI to decide.

SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co Ltd's plants are located in Qingdao, Shandong, and Chongqing?

PS: No plans of buying cellphones, computers, gadgets, appliances etc?
