BTW, the kia sorento is a good car. Anyway, this is a Kia. DAEWOO is the one to avoid.

gearspeed, i assume AcDelco ang bat mo. According to mbt, di daw maganda acdelco na brand

But for the price, there are better alternatives out there.

i think with all the information gathered, mas at risk ka yata sa optra compared sa Yotota o Honda.

ARGH!

Also, people do not buy the SSANGYON ISTANA but prefer the MERCEDES MB100 since it is a different car??
The local (CMC) MB100 is preferred because it has a high capacity cooling system as well a lower gear ratio (perfect for high-load, low-speed work). Later CMC units also benefited from a beefier flywheel and tranny (less noise) and an upgraded climate control system.

We would have gotten the Istana, but there was no factory warranty on it so we got a CMC unit. One of our best automotive purchases ever. We even looked into buying a second unit. Pero wala na palang available.

    Now BTTT.

Oh, thats a good info. At least around that time 1996??, CMC imported the upgraded version.
I had an MB100 for a month as a company shuttle for our suppliers and I noticed that the Aircon is not really that cold as compared to a Hi-ace, Starex or a Nissan Escapade van which we also have in our car pool.

    In short
    Engine died 2 times
Jerking at least 3 or more before the engine dies

GearSpeed, did you find out what's wrong with your Optra?

Sorry to hear that bro. Hope we won't have that experience with our Optra. I'm sure you're really frustrated with your experience with this car and you'd probably avoid such cars in the future. Malas sa Chevy. hehehe... anyways, we just hope that the next gen Optra would make another big leap from the current generation. The Optra now is waaaaaay better than the model it replaced so we're (me, carlo and maybe you and some other guys) expecting the next to get it right na. oh well...

with regards to the MB van, same sa sinabi ni sir Otep. We really enjoyed having that van, no problems whatsoever, we bought two pa nga kasi it was really good. I think the unit we got was from CMC. Lamig nga sobra ng a/c nung samin.

Oh, thats good to hear. I think the MB100 we got was a bad example since it was just a rental car. (we rented it for 2 weeks as a company shuttle)

Regarding the owners of the OPTRA, I think the most common fault is the HIGHER FUEL CONSUMPTION of this 1600 car as compared with other 1600 cars. That alone is a bad thing, more so with numerous complaints by owners themselves.

Anyway, it is easy for me to say this since I did not buy an OPTRA.

I remember when I bought a brand new FORD LYNX in 1999. People told me not to get it yet kasi "di pa subok yan" Anyway, to cut it short, I learned my lesson now and lost a lot of money on that car. (Replaced whole A/T assembly. out of warranty)

Like the buyers of the OPTRA na "nag-lakas loob bumili ng OPTRA" You are the people who test drove the car for us. Thank you!!

I'd heard about the A/T problem since before the Lynx... the 323 and 626 supposedly have a very fragile A/T, too... my cousin actually had to replace an A/T in their last-gen 323 before they sold it... which is why both my Lynx and my Mazda are M/T.

I feel sorry din for the guys who are experiencing these "teething" problems on their Optras... it's good experience, I guess, at trouble-shooting, and may ensure that we get better "Chevrolet-World-Cars" in the future, but it doesn't do a good job of building a brand image.

Off-Topic: I've driven two MB100s, and I'm not impressed much by the driving qualities... poor a/c and gearshift-boot (easily, EASILY cracked), but these were pretty beat on... still, more comfortable than an L300, but not seemingly as durable.

could it be the fuel pump?? coz that happened to my optra too, when the engine is still cold, everytime i step on the gas pedal during full stop, engine jerk heavily and then engine died, there was even 1 time that the engine won't start anymore coz the fuel pump conked out already, after they change the fuel pump, the jerk wasn't that heavy anymore but still jerking was still there, so we sold the car last summer, and thank god we did that coz i still often see my ex-optra being serviced at GM autoworld cebu

I had the same problem before, to correct the problem they replaced the throttle body and clean the fuel injector. i don't experienced that problem anymore. if you are an optra owner i would suggest you go to Chevy Pasig for service because they perform better than Shaw. They also replaced the brake light switch as it was recalled by the plant. faulty kasi yung break light swithc and when it breaks it would allow you to shift gears until you press the shift lock. so far so good no major complains except for the fuel economy or lack thereof. i'm also planning to sell my cars as i will not be able to use it for a long time.. for interested buyers pls. txt me at 0920-9275804. Optra 1.6LS '04 model A/T. 550k Neg.

    Hi,
Another big problem of the OPTRA is when its WARRANTY is EXPIRED!!!!! yikes!!!!!! be prepared to spend A LOT of money.. Its a money pit.

Imagine, bringing it to GM autoworld for service, and actually paying hard earned money on that company??? I think everyone knows the horror stories of GM autoworld and its SERVICE DEPARTMENT!!

Or bring it to some other TALYER so they can tinker with it?? and where can you buy expensive OPTRA parts? Banawe?? GM autoworld??

btw, i would like to share lang experiences ng 2 kaibigan ko that has an optra, both are a/t versions 2002 1.6LS ata ... both are mga 20-25000 km na tinakbo ... they are having so many problems with the car compared to my 2002 altis na same milage 25500km, yung 2 sobrng ingay na ng underchasis nila may kumakalampag na tpos yung isa nagtotopak yung stop lamp tpos both nasira na yung radio nila yung changer at madalas daw talagang nasa casa kasi ibat ibat uri mga sira .... nagsisi na sila na optra pa binili nila e... compared naman sa altis na nasira lang is powerwindows na warranty covered naman. ay at oo matakaw daw optra mga 6km/l lang nakukuha nila while ako sa altis nakaka 10km/l

so i guess, hindi lang chismis mga kwento about optra .... kasi most of the ones na meron pareho halos mga reklamo e ...
