OPTRA -to buy or not.

hello- im new here..
i have this offer for an optra 05--manual. should I or not?
with all the negatives remarks im reading here though some are good about optra. being a chevrolet, is it really that bad?

My husband bought a brand new captiva last May 2010-- its good and alright-no problem-

so we are now opting to buy optra though used naman this time?
advices po? salamat..

Forget it.

Though it serves its purpose very well.

The consumption is really bad. And this is because of the heavy weight of the body.

Add to this, the expensive maintenance of the Chevrolet's and the lack of major parts in CASA if needed.

The main problem with the Chevy Optra is not the car but with the brand.

Expensive and unavailable replacement parts.

Parts hard to find outside the casa.

So if you are choosing a used car to buy, you might be better off considering a more common brand like Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi.

If its a five year old car you are looking for with a limited budget, you might want to check out Nissan Sentra 1.3L or 1.6L units.

i'm an optra owner, 2nd owner M/T.

in my case, i get my parts in the mid-east where its cheaper
compared here so no issues ako for its expensive parts.

gas consumptions depends. in my 04 mdl optra, city driving is
ranging from 8.5-9+kms/L everyday from quezon avenue to antipolo city.
also, regular checking is needed on its break system otherwise you may results into a 6-7kms/L consumption as I've experienced before.

kaya until now my optra is still fine, very fine.

just to share, dati I used toyota, mazda, nissan. But when I started
driving an optra (abroad) there's a different in handling lalo na in high-speed, twisties at quiet ang cabin. At lalo na when I was hit by a pickup, that was the time when I started thinking na dapat pala to consider yung tibay ng sasakyan in time of collission and at that moment wreck yung front ng toyota pickup who hit my six on a sudden stop while my optra had just a slight dent and crack of paint on the rear bumper which the bumper didn't even bend.

well, consider the parts that needs to be change kase used na yung kukunin mo, not unless the 1st owner is really maintaining his car at its best.

me too ill opt to find another brand.

i was offered for a straight trade for my car to an optra 04 a/t. i turned it down because of the parts issue. i would rather a nissan 04 a/t for the same price range.

no doubt maganda ride yan... european tuned yang optra... parang benz ang ride... feeling mo nasa cocoon ka....

parts and maintenance lang talaga ang papatay sayo diyan. at yung mga parts pa naman na bumibigay, eh mga major parts (based sa experience ko while having our opel serviced sa chevy pasig)

ex. water pump, power window mechanism, shifting cable ng a/t, all sorts of sensors etc etc...

kung used car, go for japanese, its still the better choice.

although yung captiva, maganda nga raw performance, may friend ako 2 ganyan niya walang problema.

Ayaw ng mga taga Mid east yang Optra pati Aveo....mabuti pa ang Epica....mahal din ang mga piyesa dito ng chevy at mahirap pa....

bago ko nabili ride ko ngayon, me nag-offer sa akin ng Epica model 2004 ng sr16K lang...roughly 200k pesos lang...pero tinanggihan ko kasi nga mahal na piyesa,mahirap pa hanapan....

it must be the timing set to be changed not only the belt.
similar principle with motorcycles, it must not only be the chain to be replaced but also the sprockets at the same time.

kaya pagpalit mo ng timing set, the following must be included:
timing belt (approx. Php 2,400. Feb 2010 price pa ito)
tensioner (approx. Php 3,500. 2010 price pa ito)
tension idler
water pump

di ko na matandaan ang price ng ibang parts, but I'm sure you will not go beyond 15k (outside casa work, mas mahal sa casa). call Mario 0918-7801507.

sa maintenance period ng chevy, at 60k mileage timing set are to be replaced/serviced. me maingay na ba sa makina mo (yung parang matinis na tunog ng nagpiprito after you start the engine? and in which after few minutes eh nawawala yung sound?

Parang V6 / V8 SUV ang fuel consumption. Same consumption lang sila ng Explorer EB ko.

Mas marami spare parts yung 1.6 LS kaya yun ang kinuha namin noon.

Yung 1.8 LT underpowered parin naman para sa body ng Optra.

Not worth it IMO, especially if you're looking for performance that is better than your usual Altis-Sentra-Civic-Lancer. We had a 1.8L Optra service car at the office and it was hell sluggish and thirsty.
