I have an 03 Chevy Optra. I had no problems with the performance until early this year when the AC had a mysterious problem... After about 30 min of use parang nag-ice at nawawala ang lamig. Initial action that i do is to turn off the AC button and after a few minutes normal na naman. Then babalik uli ang problem after a few minutes and the cycle continues. The initial recommendation of chevy pasong tamo is to have the aircon service. Kaso the same problem remains. Then they recommended to replace the AC switch for P8k which i graciously agreed and guess what? The same problem remains. Now they are recommending to replace the condenser for P42k (labor included) and if the problem persist daw and evaporator na rin daw palitan for the same price as the condenser...CRAZY...
    I urgently need some advice....

I experienced the same thing. it seems that the life of an optra compressor is around 5 yrs. they don't really have a thermostat that turns off the comp. so it is always turned on. at first i thought it was because the entire system had to be cleaned. i did that but the icing remained. I then had a manual thermostat installed and it got rid of the icing problem. few months later, my comp broke and it wasn't producing enough pressure to move the freon inside. so i had it replaced w/ a retrofitted sanden comp. orig comp would cost you 40k alone. a sanden retrofit will still set you back 15k. just a word of caution. when you get your comp replaced with a diff brand make sure you go to a really good a/c shop. make sure they give you a new belt that is a bit longer than the orig so that your tensioner will still have some play. the comp should also be aligned precisely. fittings should be replaced to prevent leaks. if the installer is not good, your comp will produced annoying vibrating sounds. still trying to have mine re-aligned properly.. so good luck to both of us.

Oo nga, kakaiba ang aircon system ng optra...Anyway kaya ba ng mga regular aircon shops na magkabit ng manual thermostat? Separate rin ba ang switch ng thermostat na ito?
Talagang masama ang after sales ng chevrolet. I told them to remove the newly installed aircon switch coz it did not solve the problem but they did not agree kasi nakabit na daw. I told them that it was there recommendation to have it replace at CASA sila so I agreed. Ano na gagawin ko sa tinanggal na switch? IpaFRAME ko na lang siguro at ipadisplay ko sa Service Center nila...I will just have the aircon problem fix then I will sell the car...

Yes kaya naman ng regular shops kung magaling. the one i had was a mercurial thermostat. tapos meron syang sariling knob so far its working naman. just need to get rid of the idling problem.

sa mga nakakaramdam na humihina na ang lakas o lamig ng aircon, the remedy is to remove the filter.
nagtanong ako sa iilang mechanics if okay lang ito, kung di ba masisira aircon ng unit before i agreed to not put the filter back. sabi nila okay lang as long as pinapalinis mo ang aircon as scheduled.

now i'm enjoying malakas at malamig aircon kahit sa 1 speed ng fan lang. mapapansin niyo naman kung mahina na talaga aircon if kahit sa number 2 speed, halos walang lamig.

i recently had my optra's ac serviced kasi i was having the exact same problem as described above. but mine set me back by only 7k labor and materials.. i was fortunate to be introduced to this very good mechanic na nag save sa oto ko after ma ondoy. so far my car has been running smoothly without the outrageous cost na hinihingi sa casa. here is his number. he might be able to help. 09995411898.

The Optra Aircon system really sucks. We have an Optra 2004 LS and had it converted to a Sanden 508 compressor and so far okay naman. Only problem is on how to control/prevent icing, so I am thinking of having a manual thermostat installed as well.

P 14,500 sa mga a/c dealer.... sa casa naman nasa mga 27k
pacheck mo muna, baka need lang palit ng oil, pero ang span ng period to replace is every 60k.
