*i also posted this in another thread, but this might be relevant for all those interested in the optra specifically*
checked out the chevrolet optra and the aveo today. with my fascination for small cars, the aveo looks very interesting. current prices are:
aveo 1.5 m/t 575K
aveo 1.5 a/t 615K
optra 1.6 m/t 675K
optra 1.6 a/t 715k
The aveo looks ok to me, parang pang first car, with nice, hip colors to choose from. no safety features though, except for seatbelt and immobilizer. no airbags, nor ABS. like the barebones vios or city. rear sets can be folded for added trunk space, sort of like the city.
The optra is really like the lynx in that its good value for money. it's got everything for only 715K. I even like the exterior. Kaso, di ko gusto ang interior niya, don't like the combination of black and beige, didn't like the gauges. baka a matter of taste though. saving grace is the sound system, which is really nice (blaupunkt, am/fm, casette, 5 disc in-dash, with 4 speakers and 4 tweeters).
GM autoworld also has a promo for the chevrolet: 2 years free PMS, on top of the 3 year/100km warranty.

i had the chance to sit in an Optra yesterday while waiting for our car to be serviced.
initial comments:
- better avoid the M/T version of this car. the clutch feels incredibly soggy, nothing at all like the precise feel of a Honda clutch. the shifter feels like it's sitting in a bowl of tofu too... while the throws are definite, they feel soggy as well.
- there's a dead pedal for the driver's left foot. good.
- the black + beige + alumimum accented interior is cheerier than the usual Japanese monochrome.
- space at the rear seat is good, toe room under the front seats is good too. however, that toe room is compromised by a bar under the driver's seat that blocks your foot.
- the rear styling is quite sharp, the front is less so.
- four wheel disc brakes with ABS.
- 3 year / 100,000 km warranty on this one. GM Autoworld will also give buyers free preventive maintenance service for 2 years / 30,000 km (not sure on exactly on the figure, but the free PMS is there).

the zafiras are cbus from thailand, and tama sabi ni paul, opel talaga siya. the optra naman, overall is a good car, talagang it all boils down to what the buyer prefers, and whats amazing, sa optra, comparable ang acceleration niya sa altis 1.6 as in, konting konti lang ang difference, i saw it with my own eyes when two of my friends tested both vehicles, kaya kung ako ang bibili, ang pipiliin ko ay.................

2 reviews on the optra. It seems that there is a 1.8 variant being sold in other countries.
