hi ppl, im new at this group, i just have to seek advice from u guys in choosing a car. Im planning to get an SUV to replace my CRV, i need to get 1 within this month/ i already sold the CRV...now im having a hard time choosing the best. Requirements:diesel, price:within 1.0-1.5m and service center should be availble in butuan or cagayan de oro city. my mom wants a fortuner but im kinda hesitant coz i rly want a difrent car, nobody in my province has a captiva & considering the car space, i prefer the alterra but over all packaging i love the CAPTIVA crdi 4x2, ill be using the car only in the province - Surigao City(& im a girl), i like a big and macho car and something i can dress up. so can anybody help me decide? theres 1 concern on the captiva though, is the performance good? any captiva owners here?
plz help me decidethanx guys
the santa is nice as well, but the thing is ung service center nya is knda farther than my city and i think mas madaling mdressup ung captiva than the sta. fe, and ung +points sa captiva is u can avail a 3rd row seat, even if mjo masikip its ok kc for short trips lang naman. and the fortuner also HAS a 3rd row seat...mron ba sa sta. fe? thanx![]()
Sis beachaholic, I am not sure of the performance of the Captiva since am really skeptic with American cars! I have a Dodge Durango and when it comes to replacing parts, hirap na hirap ang dealer kumuha. Most of the time we have to order the parts online para lang magawa tapos matagal pa ang shipment!
I almost got a Trailblazer pero dahil nga sa experience ko sa Durango, I decided not to get na lang...
We can only give you our comments and suggestions, but in the end, ikaw pa rin ang may huling disisyon?
Choose wisely na lang po...![]()

I think there are 3rd row seats available for the Captiva... around P28K+
At P1.29M its also much more affordable than the Santa Fe.
About setting it up, the Captiva looks nice to setup.
Example of a Captiva dressed up...
Or you can try to duplicate the look of the original S3X Concept the Captiva was based on...
beachaholic, I think the best thing you can do is test drive the Alterra, Santa Fe and Captiva and see which one is best for you.
You might want to check out the Everest too.
Captiva VCDi(CRDi) 4x2 P1.29M
Santa Fe CRDi 4X2 P1.528M
Alterra 4X2 P1.47M-P1.54M
Everest 4x2 P1.227M-P1.282M

the 3rd row seat is standard on the Santa Fe and what is nice about their third row seat is that it fold flat on the floor, unlike the fortuner where it folds to the side limiting your cargo space... for those who don't know it they will think that the Santa Fe has no 3rd row seat kasi nakatago... with the Captiva I don't know how their 3rd row seat looks like, also is it original GM/original seat of the Captiva? Does it fold flat? One thing I like about the Santa Fe is that it big and roomy inside, and the seats are very comfortable for long drives... all the passengers that ride in my Santa Fe always fall asleep, they say its too comfortable they can't help it...
I'd go for the Santa Fe.
There's a Hyundai in CDO along Gusa Highway.
thanx for the input guys, im kinda confused wat to get, in terms of serivce center sa chevy, mitsubishi bxu cud cater the chevy naman coz the same owner chevy cebu and mitsubishi bxu....at least that what they said when i tokd to them. i dont like the looks of the everest much, so ill consider the santa fe na rin... i think wala na ako mpili sa lahat hehehe
ill go to cebu nalang for the weekend to check some other cars. thank you so much guys, nag iisip pa ako to get an suv or sedan nlang kaya..
i just pruchased my captiva at pasong tamo last month, when my mileage reached 2000km the only problem i experienced was that hindi na pantay nung muffler nang captiva ko, and may rust build up. ive seen these problems with most of the captivas on the road.
ano kaya solution dito? rustproof kaya?
same with me, my right muffler exhaust end is a bit lower. mostly ito sa gas version. ung diesel if you compare it's balance. actually, di ko lang napansin yung sa captiva ko but surely, sadya na siguro yun kase factory welded o soldered yung entire muffler end set.
yung rust its normal because of our weather. but its in your own discretion how ur going to maintain it.![]()
I have a problem with my 1 week old captiva. Di ko pa sya maiwan sa parking ng mall, may mga tao kasing naguusyoso & taking pictures of the SUV. Baka carnapper ikako, pero kahit babae e tumitigil din & tinitingnan yung brand "CAPTIVA". he he he. Recently reached 1016km, averaged 8.5km/li combined city/hway driving. Poging pogi talaga.
Please help me decide in buying a car. I am considering the chevrolet captiva, I want to know its service, fuel consumption compared to other suv with diesel engines, cost of maintenance and other related matter about this car. Please feel free to post your comments and suggestions (positive and negative).
BTW, the car is intended for long term use.
things to think about
- american brand diesel car
- first diesel of an american car dealer here
all i can think of are the words guinea pig
It's not an American-made car.
The basic platform design is from GM, for European and Asian consumption, while the fuel injection system is similar to that of Hyundai's. The vehicle itself is made in GM's Korean plant.
The fuel system should be relatively reliable... it's the motor and transmission themselves that are unknowns at this point.... but there's always warranty.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
looks fantastic though, wouldn't y'all agree?
if it were me buying i'd go for the better known japanese sport utes like the CRV and <gulp> the presyong ginto RAV4. hell, i'd even consider the old field master pajero... kaso ang mahal, 1.8M yata. mag fortuner na lang akow haha
