    designed with input from lotus.

that's like the daewoo espero which was designed by Bertone. didn't stop it from being a lemon though..

more recently, the hyundai matrix, designed by Pininfarina. not a lemon like the daewoo, but still not too fantastic.

    Gawa o design?

Gawa would make the price really go up. Kung design bat mukang pirated? Why not design something really true to them? Kita mo Ssangyong maski wierd looking at least orig nila.

Also with a good design pero poor materials, ganun din.

napanood nyo ba kagabi yung episode sa national geographic channel titled "driving dreams"

its about china's automotive industry.. na interview yung geely owner and manager...

ang chery pala is state owned..while the geely is private owned.. na may stocks sa hongkong stock exchange..

another is may F1 CAR na ang china..its called VESTA.. meron na din silang F1 race track..

parang detroit of asia na daw ang china sa dami ng factory ng kotse dun..

Just recently we were invited by Iseway sa China..

We saw the plant, a 56 hectare manufacturing plant capable of producing 700,000 vehicle units, 400,000 engines and 300, 000 transmissions. Malaki siya and really big player ang Chery, unlike Nexus (aka. "great Wall" in china) na small player lang. No wonder launching pa lang ng Nexus, bagsak na agad, especially since ang distributor ng vehicles was the ex-distributor of Proton and Audi cars--which both flopped.

Maganda ang quality ng Chery. In fact, it's China's largest independent automaker, wala siyang joint venture na American or European.

So far, third ang over-all sales ng Chery cars sa China last year behind Volkswagen and GM China cars.

And their GM Dr Lin Ziang's plans Chery to be at the top 10 among the world's automobiles by 2010.

Anyway, we drove a QQ on Chinese roads. It was not far actually from the Chevy Spark yung performance niya and in fact perhaps better pa nga sa Suzuki Alto despite na pareho sila ng engines na 800 cc lang. And take note, the QQ has air bags.

Suzuki Alto costs around Php 380k.

Iseway wants to sell the QQ at Php350k naman.

Actually, in China there's this QQ na "Make-your-own" design. Buyer yung pipili ng colors and siya magdedesign. I saw a green and yellow car there- cute siya.

Ang "Rav 4" SUV Tiggo naman is going to be sold at around Php 750,000 daw.

Actually, we asked the GM of Chery in China why the Tiggo looks like the Rav 4, and sabi naman niya... "Perhaps it's just a coincidence."

Hindi pa raw lumalabas yung Rav 4, dinesign na raw yung Tiggo... so coincidence nga raw talaga sabi nila.

So far, they said the quality of the Chery cars are good naman. Paint jobs there are high-tech so their cars' paints would last about 10 years.

And they said, since they would pose a new threat to our Japanese dominated car industry, mahihirapan daw sila since they know that pag pumasok sila (launching will be Friday, July 20), the Japs are sure to go back to their drawing boards... Biro n'yo 19- 20 km per liter ang consumption ng QQ. San pa sila?

Plus, the Japs and Chinese don't get well together much daw.

The Japs would not want that to happen, do they?

Well, for me, good luck na lang sa Chery cars. But I see a very good potential in them, though. Wag lang silang siraan and everything will go smoothly. and wag lang sila magaya dun sa nangyari sa isang Chinese car company before.

It's funny how the QQ did not have any bad points based on Auto Review's Test Drive.

Was the car that perfect or no one wants to piss off Chery?

Biro n'yo 19- 20 km per liter ang consumption ng QQ. San pa sila?
Japanese Kei cars and other similarly sized Japanese cars can do respectable fuel economy numbers. 19-20km/L? Let me guess san galing ang figure na iyan: CHERY! China doesn't have standardized fuel economy testing. Unlike in U.S. where the EPA does the testing.

And take note, the QQ has air bags.
But what good are airbags when the whole cabin has collapsed around you? Do the airbags actually fire while the dash, seats, steering wheel, and occupants are still in good positions? That airbag doesn't mean a thing when the steering wheel has been forced back and is facing skyward during deployment.

    "Perhaps it's just a coincidence."
Perhaps GMA didn't also cheat during the election or perhaps Erap was really telling the truth. We can't really say now, can we?

they said the quality of the Chery cars are good naman
Of course they will say that! They are the manufacturer! You are the journalist. Go and fiddle with the car to see if they mean what they say. Slam the doors, look under the dash, check all interactive points (steering wheel, shifter, door handles, etc.).

the Japs are sure to go back to their drawing boards...
And where is Chery going? To their Xerox machine?

I see a very good potential in them
I do too, but personally, their current products are even worse that what Hyundai was producing 20 years ago. They have a long way to go. At least Hyundai knew how to properly license products. Perhaps Chery will learn that too in about ten years.
