The US has to run a trade deficit with the rest of the world

That's the consequence of owning the world's reserve currency

The US needs to run a trade deficit to supply the world with dollars

the US has to buy more stuff from the rest of the world than the rest of the world buys from the US

    inward-looking, protectionist, isolationist Trump

    appealing to his political base

his ideology will only accelerate the decline of the US as world's #1 power and the dollar as the world's reserve currency

the rest of the world will just trade with each other minus the US

the rest of the world will adjust and adapt

figure out how to trade without using USD

Let's throw in an interest rate hike into the mix para masaya

Saying economy is strengthening, Fed’s Powell suggests faster pace of interest rate hikes

probability of Fed rate hike this month above 90%

    --

going forward, if Trump's tariffs happen and a trade war follows, it would slow down the US economy

that will make the Fed less aggressive on rate hikes

which is why the dollar is under pressure now

    dollar index below 89.50

Speaking of FX - guess whose economy is looking green

Japan Q4 GDP growth revised up, driven by capex gains, Economy News & Top Stories - The Straits Times
Gonna be fun to watch Japan deal with this

their central bank could pull back stimulus

    which is supporting the yen

but a strong yen is a headwind to their economy

I laugh a little when I think about it.
Economy is strong - let's stop easing
But wait it could also strengthen the yen - car makers will get pissed - let's maintain
But all this liquidity is getting uncomfortable - let's up rates
But wait, gai jins are buying up yen as safe haven - I give up. I quit.

    Hehe saya.
