    OT (heads-up):

    Maybe some of our Tsikoteers can illustrate using numbers.

    Does the math really add up?

    I mean, certainly you have to take into account monthly expenses for:

    Fuel
    Maintenance
    Spare parts
    Depreciation
    Insurance

    (This assumes you have no interest expense in amortizing the cost of the vehicle and do not pay a driver wages since you'll be doing the driving)

    So, supposing the car you're using for Uber operations is brand new, you tend to spend less for maintenance and spare parts. The cost of fuel would be variable based on consumption and fuel prices. But as you go along, you spend more for maintenance and depreciation for the car.

    Does it still result in a profit of Php15-20 k/monthly?

    Ako I'm still skeptical.

[emoji16]

    I'm a bit skeptical as well since sa depreciation palang, assuming it's for a Php 500,000 car and you're depreciating over 5 years, that's about Php 8,333 in depreciation cost alone per month. Dagdag pa fuel, periodic maintenance (which could be more frequent given that the vehicle is used a lot)...medyo ang mahal na ng running costs.

    Hiring drivers to drive your car defeated the concept of uber, naging sosy taxi na lang Talaga.

    Dito sa US. mga uber cars meron sticker ng uber dinidikit sa windshield. Para alam talaga na uber yun unmarked car

    I rode uber going to Kapitolyo late this afternoon. Driver/owner (he just came home from office) told me his earnings nowadays are not as good as before when there not too many uber cars. It used to be that they were entitled to incentive when they made a minimum of 35 rides a week. Uber revised the incentives program to include the requirement that they make 5 rides during rush hour in the morning and another 5 rides during rush hour in the afternoon. The reason for the revision was because drivers did the 35 rides a week by avoiding the rush hour. But because it's impossible to do 5 rides during rush hour, drivers no longer are able to get the incentive.

    On the way back from Kapitolyo tonight, I rode uber again. My driver was a driver and not an owner. His company has 25 Vios cars for uber use. That's probably another reason why it's no longer lucrative to drive an uber car on the side.

    Very good info - exactly one of the main reasons why being an Uber partner isn't that enticing anymore...

    James Deakin just posted that LTFRB will make its own premium taxi, an operator needs 20 units with 2.0 engine displacement. Mukhang unti unti pababagsakin ang Uber. Ahole gov't agency.

    LTFRB Announces A New Car Service Called Premium Taxi
    Kevin Bruce Francisco
    7 hours ago

    The dance between Land Transportation Franchising & Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and Uber has been around for quite a while now with LTFRB wanting to shut down the car service company due to lack of proper accreditation, among other things. Fast forward to just recently, LTFRB announced that it will hold a consultation of sorts regarding new franchises for a car service called Premium Taxi. Could the two instances be just a coincidence?

    Late last month, LTFRB on its page posted an invitation for interested parties for a “public consultation” that will talk about the issuance of new franchises for Premium Taxi. Premium Taxi, according to them, is a car service that requires a “four- or five-door automobile, sedan type, with engine displacement of 2000cc or higher (or its equivalent, if electric-, hybrid-, or alternate fuel-Powered vehicle)” that comes with the following operating conditions as per DOTC:

    1. The operator must have at least twenty (20) premium taxi units in his/her fleet;
    2. All vehicles must be brand-new at the time of franchise application;
    3. All vehicles must be in color set by the LTFRB (Note: It is proposed that the color will be black);
    4. All vehicles shall have a maximum age of 7 years;
    5. All vehicles must be equipped with a GPS vehicle tracking and navigation device;
    6. All vehicles must be equipped with an on-board electric taxi fare payment device capable of processing payments made with credit card or debit card;
    7. The operator must have a facility for booking and dispatching by way of an online or smartphone-based application; and
    8. The operator must have his/her own workshop and depot with a space of at least 15 sq.m. per vehicle.

    With these happenings, netizens can’t help but think that the reason why Uber (and even GrabCar) have been under fire and are being kept under the radar of LTFRB and DOTC was because of this pending project that they were planning from beginning.
