If ever they would start scrapping the PDAF and put something in place na mas transparent is one step that other people will reconsider

I think they are pulling figures out of thin air. Giving that kind of statement is controversial and makes people pay attention which is what I think they want but seriously, I think we are overtaxed. Let's say my tax rate is 32% and since they expanded the VAT, I now have to pay 12% tax on almost everything else including association dues for the village I live in. All in all, I am paying 44% which means that from January 1 until June 9, everything I earn goes to the Government's coffers and from June 10, whatever I earn is for myself. Quite frankly, with the services available and the quality of these services, I think I am getting the short end of the stick out of being a Filipino citizen. It annoys me more than when I do try to avail myself of Government services, the way a lot of Government officials behave is quite callous and condescending and not really accommodating.

Mmm... When they say Philippine professionals, I assume they mean regular employees right? Well, I'm a regular guy who goes to the office and works hard. When I get my pay cheque, it is already net of taxes, SSS and whatever else the Government wants to deduct. How can they make sweeping statements like that?

^ professionals, meaning doctors, lawyers, engineers and architects (not employed but charge a fee for their services, like when building a house or surveying a piece of land), dentists, accountants (freelance or have their own private practice), etc. yung "professional" na sallaried employee e hindi yan yung tinutukoy ni henares.

they mean practicing professionals, the self employed ones and not those who are employed and eligible for substituted filing

Sa BIR yung mga nagbabayad ng tama yun ang laging pinapasyalan samantalang yung hindi nagbabayad ng tama wala silang pakelam

I think Henares should be sued with a class act suit for slander for all professionals working in the country!

They are targeting self-employed professionals as stated earlier in the thread.

BIR mismo hitik sa corruption. A friend who is an engineer who used to pay the right amount to BIR long ago no longer do so because the BIR examiner will just harass him and will look for tiny bit of wrong doing even if he declares them all. The catch? Pay up ("Sobre") and we won't bother you.

And the BIR RD... oh golly they got paid big amounts of money as "Areglo." Kawawa mga employee, kaltas Wtax pero di naman tama ang declaration ng company sa BIR.

we should all do our part by paying the right taxes. corruption in government and paying the right tax should be viewed separately. I do my part by always asking receipts. The problem with these professionals and other businesses is that they do not automatically issue receipts unless you ask for it. and from what I observed most people do not ask for the official receipt. No receipt means no tax for them and that includes the VAT.

Ganun din company namin. Even if you religiouly file the correct taxes, may "lagay" pa rin sinisingil to get a clearance from them. And may "incremental" increase every year sa hinihing, even if your income remain the same. Get tough imahe ni Henares is just for show. But the bullying and corruption is still the same...

VERY MUCH TRUE. Minsan natatawa nga ako dahil yung iba kong officemate na nagresign at nagsubmit ng tamang ITR eh sinisita ng BIR na di nagbabayad ng tax. Sarap hambalusin nitong BIR.
