i think more OFW's should look into forward hedges to minimize their risk from currency fluctuations.

i'm not sure how expensive it would be to do at a personal level, but usually companies that have substantial currency risk (like a company that produces goods in China but sells them all in the US) buy hedge options to convert their currency at a fixed x-rate later on. that way the exchange rate is 'locked in' and you won't have to worry about the peso strengthening as long as your hedge has not expired.

another option is to put your investments in the other currency to help cancel out the bad effects of a move in any direction. for example, if i earn all my money in USD but spend it all in PhP, i can make investments that earn me PhP, so kahit alin dun sa dalawa ang tumaas, either yung sweldo mo ang mas malakas, o yung kita mo sa bizness sa philippines.

tingin ko babagsak na talaga US compared to us pinoys. karamihan naman ng kagamitan namin ngaun galing na din sa region na'to. kung ang buong east asia lang sana mag-ala Euros, uunlad na kami lahat dito without western influence.

did you mean na mag-ala Euro as having a single currency for the region? medyo malabong mangyari yan. masyadong malaki ang disparity ng buying power ng iba't-ibang asian currencies. lalong lulubog ang mga poorer countries because it would need to spend more than the richer countries.

mahirap talaga maging OFW. kasi pinapahirapan ng gobyerno mga tao, napipilitan mga tao na magtrabaho sa ibang bansa. the suffering continues, more and more OFWs are created. ngaun, tumataas ang Piso Laban sa dolyar dahil na din sa tulong na dollar remittances, eh di lalong papahirapan ng gobyerno ang mga tao -> the more OFW's, the more remittances.

it's a never ending cycle. swerte talaga ng gobyerno.

we dont have IMF debts na rin, all of our debts are slowly being consolidated into low-interest 10yr and 25yr bonds...

re: interest rates, i dont think so, we are very far pa. BSP is regulating the dollar, back when it was P51 our real value is P47.50 nakontrol lang ng BSP para hindi tumaas inflation, slowly nila ubuhos ang dollar this year and next year, short-term target for the dollar is 47.37, once mabutas resistance na ito it would go straight to 45 then 42... expect P38 a dollar before 2010...
Wilshire Consulting has said that Philippines' score improved more than any other country based on factors such as overall political stability, labor practices, investor protection and capital market openness surpassing Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, and was higher than China, India and Russia... how true is this??

I am an OFW and an avid fan of our present leader, i cant deny. Hearing good news from foregners mouth like this surely means i have bright prospect for my family's future not by working abroad but back in our country.(i am sick of being abroad!!)

You guys there are truly the hero not us OFW!

I'm not sure. But gas prices went to $1.99/gal on some gas stations here. That's the first time I've seen it below $2.00/gal in almost 2 years.

imho... most ofws do affect them sa exchange rate pero pag nakakatulong sa nakakarami ay ayos na din. kaso naman yung mga presyo ng prime commodities hindi pa naman nag roll back ng kahit bahagya kumpara sa mga presyo nila noong pre $50/bbl level ang oil .

Straight deposit to Peso account, not dollar account. So far walang sakit ng ulo! Forget about dollar will bounce back after election
