They called us several times and I told them repeatedly not to call back until they agreed to settle the amount to my terms. Whenever they say no, I just hang up the phone. So far they haven't called for over a year.

One thing funny pala on one of their calls I said I was willing to pay the whole amount but in my terms. And the lady was elated and said yes. Then I said, "Okey, I'll pay a penny a month until the whole thing is paid. But if I die, the whole thing dies with me". Then she hang up...
The question is... did you actually make the calls to incur the US$1000 in charges in the first place? If you did, it's only fair that you pay the whole amount.

Last week ko pa ito naririnig sa radio, but due to lack of time, di ko natatapos....

Then today, heard it again, citibank credit card officials meet with dzbb news anchor mike enriquez to settle issues on how citibank credit card make a phone conversation to credit card holders.

Lumalabas, itong mike enriquez fall to same situation as other cardholders which he descrbes as:

Last week, a lady managed to tape the conversation and it was aired.... said lady was explaining to citibank collector that she was sick, and the curt reply was

    MATULUYAN KA SANA!

well, if you are talking about 5 figure debts - then i think that they really deserve that. it isn't a laughing matter to those lending institutions - plus those who are paying religiously are burdened with the high interest rates that credit card companies are charging to offset these delinquent accounts.

the problem with filipinos is that they abuse their credit cards. they buy all these unnecessary things / gadgets / applicances but can't pay them off.

I think the issue here is the way they handled the client and what the operator said. Being a customer service oriented organization/line of work, the bill collector/phone operator should have known better then to say that. Even if the person has not been paying the bill, he has no right to say that as it is very unprofessional .

From how i see it, talo Citibank dyan...

AFAIK there are levels to this. Kapag 30 days lang overdue ang utang mo, you will just receive a friendly reminder (happened to me once already).

Pag 60 days, medyo may puwersa na and so on...

pag 120 days, they are authorized to bang the clients. Pero kung iisipin mo, its quite understandable. I mean, cmon! 4 months ka na hindi nagbabayad... what do you expect! hehehe

yup... i agree with PK... 4 months is just way too long to not pay even the MINIMUM AMOUNT...

this has happened to me twice already - forgot to pay. was just a friendly reminder. no harm done.

they may deserve it but work is work... rude behavior and vulgarisms are very unprofessional... let's not support that type of behavior. Dapat solusyon para makuha yung kailangan i-collect ang inaatupag, hindi yung sisiraan mo yung customer mo... threats and harassment is a very big no-no... lalo lang iiwas yan... talo lang lalo.

    guys, i have a suggestion.

Citibank NA is a very reputable company that puts a lot of value in happy customers and would never stand for a subsidiary employing such disrespectful people (not to mention the impending PR nightmare).

Citi over here is tough when collecting on debts but for the most part is never rude or abusive.

I disagree. Not paying bills does not justify such rude treatment from bank collectors.

The blame should go back to the overly aggressive card sales reps and credit officers. They practically force those cards into your face and I don't think they do any decent credit investigation. And they charge astronomical interest rates to top it all.

try to make it a point to put aside at least 10% of your paycheck/salary in order to pay at least a little over the minimum due.

if you foresee, and I know you will foresee, that you won't be able to make the payments, please do not use the card. turn away from that display window and think of something else. most of the time are purchases are made on a whim or on things that we do not realy need. I may be lucky but I never ever had to use a credit card for emergencies. And I mean a real emergency not because that certain item was the last one for sale or it was the last day of some super duper sale. hope I didn't step on anyone's toes.

skipper, yes its rude pero pare naman, 4 months default?

If one cant handle credit cards, then one should not use it to that extent. For me its rather inexcusable to rack up that amount and not pay up.

It just so happened that the person youre borrowing from can afford to hire goons to harass you every so often hehe.

last year ko pa napansin ang ganitong style ng Citibank credit collectors.

    may thread ako dito:
    http://www.pinoypc.net/tehboard/view...ad=5256&page=1

My wife recieved something similar for my sister in law. My sister in law has debts, for some reason ang phone number namin ang nakaregister sa kanyang account. Talaga nga naman.... The call was not that bad, siguro kasi intimidating ang voice ng wife ko. She then told them that we don't have any debts with them, call my sister in law directly. She told them to dig our records with them. They called back apologizing to my wife, since we have excellent records with them.

In my opinion they should just put the hassle and pressure to the one in debt. Also one who can't pay their debts are most of the time genuinely does NOT like to pay. In my opinion if I did not have enough money to pay the bills, I would not use it. In case I use it an emergency, like hospital bill. Iyon lang ang magiging laman ng credit ko, at I think I will still pay the minimum. These cronic utang guys/gals are pushing the interest rates for us good payers. Aside from that we get the hassle of creditors talking to us.

So if you guys think getting a bad phone call for someone's debt. I think its worse that we have to pay higher interest to cover someone's debt.

Yes they do these to their delinquent clients and their client(s) friends and relatives.

We were a victim of that scheme courtesy of my brod-in-law.

Yup, maybe my bayaw misused his ccard pero bakit pa kami masasabit dun?

OO nga... di naman siguro ganun yung mga credit card companies maningil kung yung credit card holders marunong magbayad on time eh.. or if delayed man at least mabayaran pa rin yung dapat isettle na minimum right?....
