sa mga new grads siguro may konti pa ring discrimination. most employers now prefer UP, DLS, Ateneo and UAP grads.

buti dating nung kapanahunan ko wala.

With majority of schools barely meeting the minimum requirements for running a college, most will turn out ill-equipped graduates. However, if there is an exceptional/qualified candidate coming from non-Top 5 school, employers should be able to spot them if they applied.

I hope there's no discrimination, only screening for qualified candidates.

This is mostly true for fresh grads. Once you've gained the experience, school will come second or even third.

Yes, there is discrimination going on. Even during my time, there was. I was not accepted to a prestegious banking institution because I was "only" a U.S.T. graduate and not a La Salle, U.P. or Ateneo graduate, even though my pre-employment test scores are higher than my companions that took the test who were from either La Salle, Ateneo or U.P. Mind you, this happened nearly 20 years ago.

I've met a good number of intelligent kids who did not make it here in the concree jungle called Metro Manila because they are graduates of provincials schools or universities. Some of them had to settle for either a job as a sales lady or a messenger. I know someone who is quite intelligent and very capable, yet now works as a waiter in the middle east. His problem? He was not given the opportunity by employers in Makati because he graduated from a small university somewhere in the Visayas.

One of my closest friends is pushing his son to study hard so that he be either accepted in U.P., La Salle, Ateneo or U.A.P. His exact words: "Anak, sa pangalan pa lang ng school, siguradong may trabaho ka."

My wife works for a known bank. They admit that they really have bias on La Salle and Ateneo graduates. However, they also like graduates from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and Pamantasan ng Makati. Magagaling daw mga nakuha nila from these schools based on their experience. Kasi binabagay din nila sa culture ng office nila. Minsan daw kasi, although highly intelligent some applicants from other schools, may inferiority complex daw. Malakas ang self pity only because mahirap sila. Or may malaking problemang dinadala like sila and bread winner ng pamilya kaya pag na pressure, bumibigay. This is just from her experience in their institution. Kung talaga naman daw matalino at may confidence, miski hindi DLSU o Ateneo they do get the applicant.

Pero, kawawa naman yung mga nanggagaling sa province or yung mga kids na matalino naman pero dehins galing sa schools like Ateneo or La Salle kasi mahirap lang sila. Hindi gaanong nabibigyan ng opportunity to prove their worth. Tsk.

dito sa ibang bansa naman bilib sila kung graduate ka sa may "of the Philippines"

gaya ng "University of the Philippines"
    "Polytechnic University of the Philippines
    "Technological Institute of the Philippines"
La Salle, Ateneo di nila masyado kilala. kaya dito madali makahanap ng trabaho gaya ko garduate ng Lyceum of the Philippines. he he he. isa din yan dahilan kaya madali ako makakuha ng US & Europe VISA.

Mahirap talaga pag taga malayong lugar ka at medyo di kilala ang school mo....

"Preferably license Engineer is a must ang nakasulat sa classified ads, nak ng p*cha non-license ba naman kinuha, kaya tuloy nawawalan ako ng gana mag apply sa pinas particularly Metro Manila area and its near provinces with industrial park"

pagkakaalam ko, the bigger companies do tend to favor applicants from the bigger universities. sad to say, it would seem that in large part the tuition our parents pay is for the "name" of the university.

in fairness, i've received comments fro employers that graduates of some of the "lesser" colleges/universities(e.g. AMA, STI), despite their academic achievements, tend to lack certain qualities compared to the "traditional" colleges/universities; i guess they can afford better facilities, professors, computers, etc. kaya mas maganda exposure.

sabi nga ng physics teacher ko dati: It's not where you are, it's who you are. At least that's the way it should be.

    makes sense....

dito sa amin, prefered nung HR namin are graduates from St. Scho and Assumption lang.... manyak yung HR Manager namin eh. hehehehe.

pero one of my newest staff (a VB programmer), is a graduate of STI University in Binan. Mataas nakuha nya sa programming skills test eh, even besting out other candidates from DLS, Mapua-IT and PLM.
