November 2nd, 2007 09:36 PM #11yes, if not for the strong peso gasoline/diesel prices would be more than P50 a liter.
re rising costs of commodity goods: inflation cannot be stopped, but it can be slowed. we're enjoying the lowest inflation rates since 1997.

November 2nd, 2007 09:50 PM #12Yes and Barely Yes...
Sa negosyo namin sa office YES, kasi we import what we are trading and we are buying it at a slightly lower price now. The good part here is that, I know our company will still exist... and thus merun pa akong (kami ng mga kaupisina ko) trabaho next year...hehehe.
Sa actual household income, barely YES kasi the bulk of the bilihin is almost the same pa. Some are cheaper actually but will not be that much significant to feel it. Mostly sa clothing marami ng bumaba. Pero sa food very slight lang ang ibinaba (pero eratic pa rin). Sa shelter, pareho pa rin rent namin eh.

November 2nd, 2007 10:04 PM #15Can't hoard dollars yet... bank rumor is that it is going P40/$ by year end.
OFWs should convert it to Euro instead of US$

As per news awhile ago, the government can't do anything about oil price hike! IMO the strong peso value today is bec of the continuous remittances of our OFWs and followed by the weakening of the dollar. Imagine, pandesal paliit ng paliit, kulang nalang maging sing liit ng piso, or if di paliit ng paliit, pamahal ng pamahal. Jollibee which is known to have affordable meals eh tlagang mahal narin coz of this 12% EVAT which most of it just went into some pockets, Ang kuryente kahit sa gabi lang ginagamit super mahal parin, kahit anong tipid its kinda useless, and yes tumaas ang minimum wage, but kasabay naman nun ang pagtaas ng LAHAT ng bilihin, Even if I'm not a minimum wage earner, most of my salary just go to the goverment... the "mass" will never feel the effect of a strong peso unless prices of prime commodies will go down.

IIRC they're with AVID. The reported numbers in the TG article are from CAMPI.
