Then it is a really big screw up ... systems should have several redundancy checks specially for critical industries like banking systems ... loaded data from the wrong file? ... that is a very lame excuse ... still think they were hacked ... they just won't admit it ...

it's either "we were hacked ... " or "we have incompetent IT ..."

Ang redundant lang eh yung involve ang human intervention. Pagdating sa processing na puro Computer na eh it is always assumed na tama yung process. Although that process is throughly tested in all scenario. Problem usually arise pag may scenario na di naisama.

I don't know if may law na pwede ka nilang kasuhan kung ni withdraw mo yung money sa account mo.. it's your account.

Nangyari na dati sa messenger namin yan.. nag withdraw sya.. mukhang mali yung lagay nung cash sa ATM.. imbes na 100.00 ang lumabas eh 1000.00.. and he withdraw all he can get.. nakita lang sa CCTV na sya yung nag withdraw sa ATM.. wala naman kinaso.. the bank just called me and asked (pleaded) na isoli yung pera otherwise sila magbabayad..

meron sa alam ko. i think this was due to a celebrated case in the early or late 80s, the melon bank case wherein a filipino was wrongly credited $20M in his account. dapat yata $20k lang naging milliones, typo error. he widrew the money and he was sued.

on a similar note, happened to me in the late 90s naman my account was credited $300k. i informed the bank i had no such money coming so they checked. i got a thank you note from my branch manager

Btw kapag nagwithdrawbka ng pera sa ATM na hindi naman talaga sa iyo. Afaik, theft pwede ikaso sa'yo. Ewan lang kung pasok sa qualified theft since the bank trusts that you will report erroneous debit or credit to your account.

That's why I keep at least 3 cards (BPI, HSBC and AMEX) so I have a back up. But I use my BPI the most because I just pay for it online.

I couldn't agree more. It's the nature of banks to have multiple checks which are meant to avoid screw ups of this scale Something is really wrong in the controls process of BPI (whether it is people or system based)
