Might be because they tell you how much is in the account is. Must have been from the passbook era. Now you've mentioned it, i am curious as well....

I will NEVER bank with BDO.

Also, BPI has online queue daw? My friends just told me about it. Basta ako, I go to the bank just before closing. 5 mins to close, no more lines
