Bitcoins are back to their upward trend and more businesses will be adopting them among other cryptocurencies. Expat businesses and individuals prefer the convenience of crypto currencies for international and cross border transactions to traditional currencies. What many US expats don’t know is that they are now obligated to file US virtual currency taxes even when they transact and earn in cyrptocurrencies. There are those who invest in cryptocrrencues hoping to sell when it rises and they are also required to file capital gains tax with the IRS.

would have been great to have purchased a few coins back when it was sub $4k each. But it was a risky proposition then with the downward spiral trend.

How are you guys investing in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies?

I'm not aggressive trader, just hodler :D and I'm starting to think the bull is awake now... just needs a few morning coffee to do its job. I'm seeing we are done with the bearish season; done testing the support. Now i-test naman natin ang resistance.

I don't think BTC will ever hit the same highs as December 2017 anytime this year.

But do I believe the record-setting highs of 2 years ago will be breached in the next 2 years? I would say no but I do think the high price of $20k per BTC will be breached before 2024.

Is the bull awake? If the price goes past $10.5k this weekend, then I would say so. But I don't think it will. Keep hodling.

after years of trying to become a widely used currency (but failed)

bitcoin has become a store of value like gold

Here's my first open-air cryptomining build. Highlights include:

    • Custom DIY rack built from a 4-tier metal shelf (bought from True Value)
    • 7 AMD GPU's (6 AMD RX 6800's and 1 RX 5700)
    • 1800w gold-rated PSU (actual power draw is about 1200w at most but averaging at 1KW)
    • Capable of 450 million hashes per second but currently clocked down to a hashrate of 435 MH/s for stability
    • Pentium G4560, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 120 GB SSD
    • Old android tablet used for telemetry readouts (can't keep the screen on for a long period since it's an AMOLED)
    • Estimated net profit is about 0.0256 btc per month
    • Total cost is ₱361k, ROI estimated at 6 months (at current btc rates of 1 btc to $48k usd and with Meralco * ₱8.75 per KWh)

Curious as to why you needed a large monitor ... Isn't it possible to access the miner remotely from another computer? ... What OS and software are you using? ...

    Just my guess.
Mura nalang ngayon mga monitors at hindi ganoon ka layo pricing ng small size monitors vs larger size monitor. So yung large size nalang bilhin.

This was actually my spare monitor. The other ones I had were either curved or the ultrawide variety, hence, not really ideal for this use case. I monitor the system remotely using an old Samsung tablet.

It's currently on Windows 10 (20H2) running PhoenixMiner. I would have preferred linux but the RX 6800s that I have are still unsupported as of today. And since this is Windows, I can't run it as a fully headless system yet because you would need to babysit every once in a while for crashes, reboots, and such.

Do you have an electric meter installed on power outlet to monitor consumption? ...

My wattmeter got fried last year so I will have to rely on Meralco at the moment.

This rig has been mining for about a couple of weeks so my next bill should provide us with this info.

Yup, the plan is to get a 3.1KHz on-grid solar setup and install net-metering to sell back electricity. However, we need to break-even first.

Bitcoin is now rising at $54,500. This rig has already been able to get me 0.01 btc in just under 10 days of mining nearly non-stop 24/7. if this profitability continues, ROI will be 1.5 months ahead of schedule.

Dont worry it will rebound at the end of the year. People are saying baka 30-50k/btc.
The most important of all is dont panic and sell at a loss.
I had some altcoins cut into half or even higher but all have rebounded already and have some nice profits.

BTC is now at 6.6k and when it hits 6k, i'm buying in. Some people are speculating it might fall into 3-4k
I knew may mga naipit dito back then so i backread, tutuo pala, monay is made by sitting, not trading
