SAP specialists are one of the highest paid IT profs these days...medyo may kamahalan nga lang yong bayad sa training....
Pardon my asking, but, how much does an SAP programmer make? And, what are the prerequisites before you can train as an SAP programmer? Thanks!Originally Posted by delprado

yung mga functional consultants ang medyo highly-paid.
SAP -> Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing
Their main product is the R/3 which offers ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions (the R/3) for large companies. Basically, this integrates all of the business process of a company. (e.g. a warehouseman posts the goods receipt of inventory, a corresponding accounting entry will be generated).
Here's the division of the R/3:
1. Functional
1.a. Financial
1.b. Logistics (this is my line of work)
2. ABAP
3. BASIS
The Functional side is the one reviewing the business process, fitting it into the requirements of the company and basically configuring the system. This requires NO programming work whatsoever - you just have to "tweak" the setting of the system (which sounds easy but it isn't). Though under Financials & Logistics there are other "modules" which you can specialize in. Most consultants specialize in only one module. If you know more than one - you are one lucky dog (like me - hehe ;)).
ABAP is the programming side - they come in when the Functional Team cannot anymore tweak the system (like for customized reports, etc).
BASIS is the system administration aspect - they deal mainly with security, performance, upgrade, etc.
Though lately - SAP has been branching into other products like Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, Single Platfrom Compatiblity, Industry-Specific Solutions, etc.
Training is being offered locally. A one-month certification course for a single module costs around P300K (though you have to pass the test). Though you can also learn SAP through experience (like what I did). Self-study is a bit tricky since you have to have access to the system (which can only be provided by a big-ass server).
where ba ang local training na sinabi mo, i dont mind 300K.Originally Posted by mazdamazda

Though SAP training is being offered anywhere in the world. The rates are almost the same anywhere. It is around $5000/module.
Here's the list of training that you can attend:

Though I have to warn you guys, a lot of stuff will not be covered by the training.
wow!

Me, I just do self study during my consulting days. kasi may test system kami na pwede paglaruan.
flakez: dati ka na bang programmer? if so, learning ABAP won't be too hard for you i guess. as they've said, you can take courses run by SAP Academy (which can be really tough on your pocket) or you can also buy books online in the SAP Knowledge Shop. learn on your own pace + inexpensive pa. i can recommend some good books if you want. and, meron ding free tutorial CD ang mga books na kasama called MiniSAP/MiniWAS you can install in your desktop.
but, of course, experience is still the best teacher. i've been into ABAP for the last seven years doing consulting jobs here & there. if you can find a company who's into SAP and can give you a chance to learn ABAP, grab it!
good luck!

thanks again
well... depends talaga yan.Originally Posted by fLaKeZ
certification isn't really a prerequisite. pero mas ok na meron kasi shempre mas mataas ang sweldo (since globally recognized naman ang SAP certification).
basta mas mahalaga ang experience & hands-on knowledge.
may mga companies... na nag ooffer ng internship (lalo na for fresh grads)... they will train you in SAP... pero shempre tali ka for a few years or so sa kanila.
curious lang john, what kind of software does sap produce? Mga Database, Utilities, servers?
fLaKeZ, yun sigurong 30K minimum na yun. pero depende pa rin sa galing ang bayad sa 'yo. in some countries you can get as little as US$3K to as high as US$6K per month. dyan sa Pinas medyo mas mababa ang bigayan kasi dami na ring ABAP programmers at SAP Consultant dyan.
tama si sir mazdamazda na di naman prerequisite yun certification pero mas maganda lang kung meron ka (prima facie evidence na marunong ka nga).
ILuvDetailing, SAP is an Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) system...SAP R/3 na mismo yun product.
