    Hello everyone,

I would like to ask you guys if you know an effective security gadget (besides the alarm) to keep car thieves and carnappers from pursuing their intentions.

The info you can give me will be much appreciated.

    Warm regards to all...

    Welcome to tsikot.

There is no one device that will give you 100% protection from car theft. ANy device can be defeated. What you can do is layer your defenses to make it harder to steal and less attractive to theives.

Here are some things you can do. If you are really paranoid then by all means do them all:
    1. Get an alarm equipped with starter kill/disable.
    2. If possible the alarm should have a back up battery and siren.
    3. Install the alarm in such a way that it will be hard to disable. As in custom install and not the standard install done by most people.
    4. Change locks, Solex is a good brand.
    5. Use a steering wheel lock.
    6. There used to be a product that locks both gear shift lever and clutch. Can't recall the name but its made in Israel. Not sure if still in the market.
    7. Bring your car to Big Berts and have them acid etch your plate no on your windows and side mirrors.
    8. Park only in secured parking lots.
    9. Keep a rotwiller inside your car.
    10. Commute ka na lang and keep the car at home joke lang.

mas counter productive ito. example you are parked in a dark alley (di mo minsan maiwasan ito) tapos you get inside your vehicle, instead of driving immediately siyempre tatangalin mo pa ito, it would take time and it takes your attention away to the possible dangers around. Result is, it would be easier for a carjacker to take your car at gunpoint. Tapos macacarjack ka pa with the key, mahihirapan ka pa magclaim sa insurance niyan.

That's what the rott is for. hehehe.

Seriously, I sometimes take my big a** german shepherd with me and everyone gives me a wide berth. Pero pag golden retriever puppy ang kasama mo, it has the opposite effect -- on girls. hehehe.

pwede mo ding pamalo sa ulo ng carjacker yung steering wheel lock :hit:

the advice about layering defenses is good advice. add ko lang that the defenses should be the most visible to a would-be carnapper (alarms with visible LED, steering wheel locks, etching). the idea is not to prevent your car being stolen - countless studies show that if an experienced thief wants to steal YOUR car, then he will no matter what devices you have - the idea is to make it such a hassle to steal your car that he goes and steals some other poor schmuck's car :hihihi:

install one of these in a well hidden unconspicious part of your car. battery kill switches like the racers use is one of the ingenius method of preventing car theft you just take the key with you and the car will not turn on no matter how hard the car thief tries.

Like I said its things one can do. I do know of some people who use the steering wheel lock and so far wala pa naman sa kanila na na carjack but there is always a 1st time. Wag naman sana. Personally I don't use this thing as I find it to be to bothersome.

The general idea is to layer your defenses to make your car unattractive. Make the bad guy think its too much of a bother to steal your car. If he decides it will take too long to steal your car then he just might go for a different target. But like I said any device can be defeated if the BG wants it bad enough.

For those who are really paranoid and borederline crazy, there was an article in a newspaper (a few years ago) where people in a South Africa (I think, not sure) came up with a few crazy things to prevent car theft. One was a .308 bullet under the drivers seat set to go off in case of therft. Another is a blast of flame around the car. Pang James Bond.

its P150 per panel so say you want to etch both of your side mirrors then it will cost P300. You have to call Big Berts a few days in advance cause they have to prepare the mold or whatever you call it. Had my side mirrors done by them and am very happy with the workmanship.

Hi Sir Userfriendly, I would like to ask you about the concept of etching. Why do thieves get discouraged by this? What's the idea behind?

For the side mirrors, they can steal it but can't sell it, since no one will buy side mirrors that have your lic plate no on it. Prevents side mirror theft. Cheap insurance for your side mirrors. I hate side mirror thieves. I once parked my car outside my house for less than 10 mins and my side mirror got stolen.

If you have your windows and windshields etched, they gave to replace the glass before they can sell the car. Now if they will steal your car for chop, chop, then the etching will not stop them but at least they can't resell the glass. Bawas kita.

Add ko lang. Some cars are equipped with computer chips on the keys. You can not start the car with out the chip key. So lets say you have your key duplicated by Mr. Quickie, you will be able to open the door but not start the car. Only place you can get the chip is from the dealer. Of course its very expensive. Its mostly found on American and European cars. I heared that a BMW key will cost around P15,000 and they have to get it from Europe.
