Yesterday, I had to go to an unfamiliar place down south. I used my GPS, loaded with OSM, to plot me a route and I had to pass thru Bicutan, the service road all the way to Alabang then Alabang-Zapote road.

Unfortunately, there was a big accident involving a trailer in SLEX and it affected the traffic a lot, including the skyway. So, i was stuck at the service road and thought about using the detour function of my GPS in the hope that it would find me a way out of there.

So it told me to take the next right turn and I went into a gated subdivision. I was following the route it said but I reached the end of the road with a locked gate in the end. As I turned around, it plotted me again with another route and I felt we were going places na. Then when it instructed me to turn right going nearer to a major road, the road was walled off! Damn!

I had no choice but to back track going back to the service road. I spent too much time at the service road and SLEX was still traffic so I took a gamble at Sucat road this time. The GPS pointed me again to some gated villages but I have heard of these villages with "Friendship" gate passes so I knew there would be an exit somewhere further down south. I took a gamble and tailgated a car going in on the w/ sticker lane. Sorry, I was a bit desperate.

Then the GPS really did its work already, pointing me the fastest way going to my destination. I was afraid that I would end up again on a walled or gated road but my gamble paid thru. I was still extremely late arriving at my destination but I would like to share you this, be prepared to get frustrated if in case you are going to the Las Pinas / Paranaque area relying on your GPS only. Stick to the main roads and you'll be ok.

    Araw araw may nagbabago.

Pero meron din naman talagang mga mali. Nasa SLEx ako tapos ginamit ko yung drive function, pinapakanan ako. Di naman exit. Yun pala may tulay sa taas. Mali ata pagkaka digitize ng kalsada.

That is the reason why maps are updated almost monthly

I hope you contributed those restrictions to OSM, to make the map better for others and for yourself na rin.

Welcome to Las Pinas and Paranaque bro.

Where roads disappear because of walls and gates.

And you need special passes (stickers) to pass through...

Yup,- you have to comprehend these in the maps, for the GPS to be effective.

you cannot totally rely on a gps lalo na sa places you are not very familiar. unlike in other countries updated and detailed yun maps nila. i think yun carNavi na ang pinaka updated ang map compared to garmin. hindi naman alam ng gps kung private subdivision ba yun binibigay nyang route sayo. sometimes it is still best to ask tric drivers

That is also why GPS units that learn are much better. I remember using a GPS app in my WM Device which even warned me if I was speeding. It would plot several routes and it allows you to review them. You can pick the route, and if you find that there is an error in that route, or an obstruction, such as road repairs, a closed private gate, or something, you can block it off the choices and it will never turn up again.

Okay sana if your GPS changes maps based on the time of day. There are areas na one way in one direction kapag morning, and one way the other direction in the afternoon.

i presumed that you are a contributor in Roadguide.ph since you claimed that you are using the contributor's map... then why not submit the necessary corrections, so that it can be updated in the next map version... kailangan ikaw mismo ang mag submit nito since ikaw ang personal na naka experience.

btw, what's your user name in Roadguide.ph?

in most of the country perhaps but not all areas.

try to use 2 garmins side by side and route anywhere around sta cruz and binondo and quiapo manila...makati cbd and ortigas

you'll be surprised who's more accurate in routing. one way streets and turn restrictions, lots of them there when you need it most :P

[COLOR="teal"]Actually I tremendously appreciate it when using it on long road trips....

It keeps me alert and awake....

Specially when all of your passengers are fast asleep....
