What you're looking for is the appropriate ballast for it. "HID kits" usually comes with a bulb AND a ballast so if you simply bought the bulb, wag ka na tumipid and purchase the ballast.

But with all due seriousness, even if you have a glare shield. It will only bar the direct output throw.. which is counter-intuitive in a lighting scenario is because you want it as far as you can go (if not, we'll all be driving with our fogs which has a very short throw lang). Not to mention that glare isn't just the direct scattering of light but also the surrounding areas -- the roads, puddles, etc. these will REFLECT the glare.

What I simply suggest is use better halogen lights.. like Osram Nightbreakers as direct replacements for stock lighting.
Hope this will help you in your decision.

Noob question.. But will hid still give as much glare if the headlight is already smoked? Since everythings blacked out aside for the reflector bowl?

    Eg.

as mentioned in some of the previous threads here, a properly retrofitted HID system will not have any glare since it has a projector that focus all the lights on the road. also the projector has a cut-off, that means walang glare above the cut-off line. but even if you have a properly retrofitted hid projector, you still have to make a good alignment since hindi lang ang on-coming traffic ang pwedeng masilaw sa hid natin. we also have to consider the car in front of us that is traveling in the same direction sa atin. dapat at about 25ft our cut-off should be below the side mirror of the car in front of us. check this out for comparison.

proper hid retrofit usually starts at around 11k for aftermarket setup and can go up to 26k-30k+ for eom setup. but that still depends on the retrofitter and the add on's your planning to put on your setup.

Yes. It will give the same glare because the reflector bowl remains stock, and that's the part that projects the light.

    Rule of thumb:
Want to upgrade light output on a tight budget = Osram NBP/Philips XV
With (a bit of) budget - Go with Projectors, no doubt. Kahit entry level lang, worlds apart ang difference compared to PnP. I saw an underbone MC retrofitted with HID projectors, sobrang ok ng output, and props to him for deciding to go projectors.

My observation.

Agree with Chik, though I do not personally have a sedan as reference. Hehehe! Just a van and an suv. Happy with the output.

Wow! Aius na talaga ang buga ng projector.. Hindi comparable sa "just headlights"

Nakaka excite kaso it comes with a price.

hope maging stock feature na ang projector lights sa lahat ng vehicle in the coming years.

For safety and performance narin for the drivers.

HID in a projector is the best. It's literally a night and day difference.

Recently had our Tucson retrofitted by GaryQ (hidretrofit.net).

    Headlamps before and after conversion:

Beam Shots: BEFORE: Low- and high-beam (OEM halogen bulbs):

Beam Shots: AFTER: Low- and high-beam (Stage 3 - 35W HID Projectors)
