Good pm. Just want to know if anyone had experienced a problem I experienced tonight with my e30 325i.

This morning, I heard a slight langitngit coming from the engine. The sound is similar to a worn out water pump. (I had a brand new water pump, timing belt and tensioner installed just three weeks ago). This evening, the overheat warning light on the OBD suddenly flashed for a few seconds. The temp guage was normal, a little less than half. Upon reaching my destination, I checked the engine bay and smelled a slight burning odor.

On my way home, the warning lights on the right side of the instrument cluster - hand brake, abs, battery, brake sensors, etc - suddenly illuminated. They remained illumanated till I reached home. Lights and other accessories remained normal and did not decrease in power inspite of the warning lights. Engine power seems normal.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? What could have gone wrong?

    Many thanks in advance.

sounds like something tripped one of the OBD sensors. unfortunately, i don't think there is anything you can do to find out what's wrong without the proper diagnostic software.

i suggest you bring it to a trusted bmw-certified mechanic.

btw, it's not necessarily the water pump, if you don't hear the noise anymore and the engine doesn't run hot. it merely sounds to me like the new parts were just breaking in...

Your thoughts on the matter are greatly appreciated.

Last Sunday afternoon, I observed a more distict noise coming from the alternator. I had it checked last Monday and learned that the stator and bearings were burnt. The car is still in the shop...

    Many thanks for your time...
