HID Brands - Reviews?

Hey Tsikoteers!

Planning to get a good set of HIDs for my car real soon, but I'm still quite skeptical on which brand to get and where to get 'em. There's a lot of China and Taiwan brands roaming around the market and online recently aside from the Germany ones, I was just wondering if some of you guys who own one could give some reviews about the brands you're using.

The size for my car is H4, so I'm also deciding which type to get. I've seen ones with low HID and high Halogen, others only have low, while some others have the telescopic type. So, if anyone of you guys are using H4 specifically, I'd greatly appreciate reviews from the different types :D

Parepareho lang ba talaga ng buga ung mga HID's?

Kasi I'm eyeing for either Kogsundiam's HID or ung Vision. 500 lang ang difference, pero magkaiba talaga ang packaging at digital-type nga raw yung kay Kogsundiam. Pareho lang ba actually yun or talagang may difference?

Both are sold in the classifieds nga pala.

ask ko rin kung san pede magpalagay ng hid na maayos at may warranty and how much? yung hindi na kailangan magdrill sa car? baka kasi ma-void ang warranty ko sa casa kapag nagpakabit ako sa labas? thanx

projector kaya alternative way ko eh is smoke and proper alignment

What about McCullouch, Philips, and other highly recommended brands, magkano and saan maganda magpakabit? Yung trustworthy (won't sell you sh*t para lang magkabenta), may warranty, at maganda gawa at a reasonable price?

Any brand is ok. I particularly use China or HK brands. Yung pinakaluma ko is made in China at nakaka 3 years na w/o any problems. It all comes down to where and how you mount it. Dapat mataas, away from fluids, away from heat and most of all dapat insulated siya para di ma ground. Nasira dati yung Xenon ko dahil na ground and it cost me P16k kaya I opted nalang for the more affordable China brands. Didn't turn back ever since.

hi,forgive my ignorance tungkol sa HID and pagpapakabit ng changes sa headlights, pero I have some questions... (oh, I was planning to have my Mazda 3 <na parating pa lang> changed to HID; before what I simply did with my VTEC was change the headlight bulb to white light, which was fine and cheap pero they burned out every few months, and eventually I think they caused by headlight cover to fog up dahil sa init)

1. I understand iba ang pagpapa-convert sa HID compared to what I did by changing my bulbs lang. Tama ba? Mazda costed it out sa akin ng mga P66K yata or P30K per light. Which was whaaaaaaat?!?! So plano ko pagawa sa labas. Been reading magazines like C and top gear and the advertorials there say better yung brands like Xenon, McCulloch, and Federal Mogul (but obviously, these are PAID ads and articles)

2. ano ibig sabihin pag telescopic and yung projector? Iba pa or related yon at kelangan gawin pag magpapa-HID ka?

3. What brands ang ok (affordable yet matibay)? San nire-recommend ninyo magpakabit? May warranty ba sila sa parts and service?

4. Is it easy to re-convert your HID back to the original parts if I have to, say, sell my car and I'd want to keep my HID's

5. If my M3 has separate bulbs sa high and low beam, plus may foglamps pa siya, is it better to convert them all so they will appear similar color na bright white (with a hint of blue)?

Hmm.. I think most of your inquiries have already been discussed in the HID Faq thread, but well, might as well:

1. You don't have to spend 30-60K for upgrading your M3 to HID. Look at the LO (turn on your lights and make sure it's not set to full bright). Notice that the housing of the bulb that is turned on is circular or orbish and not cup-like. Now turn your lights to full-bright. Notice that your HI (aka your FULL BRIGHT lights) have a different assembly compared to your LO. Stock Mazda 3's have projector type assemblies for the LO and halogen type assemblies for the HI. Meaning to say that you just have to buy HID bulbs for your LO and you're all set. You wouldn't burden oncoming traffic as your HID is fitted in the proper assembly.

2. Telescopic is a new technology for HID. The bulb tilts to perform the HI LO function of stock bulbs. But this is not applicable to your Mazda 3. Telescopic type of bulbs is only applicable for vehicles using H4 or 9006 type of bulbs, which afaik is not used by an M3. Projector is the assembly I mentioned in number 1.

3. Accdg. to the replies here in this thread, it seems China brands are ok. What you just have to make sure is that there's at least ONE year warranty and that the seller you're buying from has plenty of stocks to avoid hassle should the set you buy would be defective.

4. It's very easy to re-convert. The electrician would just rewire and replace your HID's with the old bulbs.

5. Converting them all is just for aesthetics purposes IMO. Besides, aabot ka rin siguro ng mga 15-20K for converting all of them. My advice is for you to just upgrade your LO and keep your HI and fogs stock. Reason being kasi is yung fogs and HI mo hindi naman projector-types. Mai-inconvenience mo lang yung oncoming traffic sa glare na mapoproduce ng fogs mo and yung sa HI naman eh hindi mo naman din masusulit yung HID gawa ng bihira mo lang gamitin, at pag gamitin mo ng matagalan eh parang fogs mo rin na sobrang nakakasilaw for oncoming traffic. Kung gusto mong di naman masagwang tignan yung iba-ibang kulay, gawin mo na lang YELLOW na halogen yung fogs at SUPER WHITE naman yung HI (assuming 6000K or Super white din yung color ng HID na bibilhin mo). IMO mas maporma pa ang dating nito kumpara sa all white setup plus di ka pa makaka-inconvenience ng ibang motorista. Just my .02

Hehe, actually I just really sticked to mind what the others here have advocated most : the proper installation of HID's.

It's lucky for the TS that his daily driver is pre-equipped with the assembly compared to mine. I have to spend about 20K for the retrofitting of projector assemblies in my daily driver, but in the end, since aesthetically the car looks better and functionality-wise is better, it's worth every penny once I've done it. Haha..

Wow, perfect. Thanks for being patient in answering my questions. I finally found that HID thread you mentioned. Kasi, in the past, I just searched "HID" instead of going to Car Electronics, and seeing it under "sticky thread." Kudos sa point by point reply.

Yes, so it seems just pick an HID bulb na swak sa car ko, and then pakabit ko na lang, right? I found out that M3's only have low beam as HID sa 2.0, so why re-invent that? I'll go with your recommendation to just change my low beam, pare.

Question lang sa #4 mo, if I have to revert back to halogen sa low beam ko, why the need to re-wire? Does that mean may re-wiring sa time when I change my low beam to HID?

Also, will the conversion to HID have an adverse effect on my headlight cover? I heard from ca/sa that there are customers who shifted to HID (not specific whether they did it correctly or if they converted their low beam only) and are now complaining that their lenses/headlamp covers have become fogged or unclear. Is there such a thing? Meaning super mainit ba ang na-e-emit ng HID or may bad effect siya sa glass/fiberglass ng headlamp?
