Sorry op. Can't thing of any argument to convince someone who drives a/t to switch to mt. The convinience of a/t especially in traffick is more than enough to counter any argument.

Ganyan talaga kapag papuntang senior na ang age dapat matic na talaga kayo, pupulikatin agad kayo, ipaubaya na sa mga bagets ang manual [emoji23]
I'm surprised at the number of people who detest driving a manualIt was only recently that my Kuya convinced me to get an AT. I enjoy driving a manual especially long distance. Pro of driving a manual? The fuel savings I guess. But for some people it is negligible.
Pero if it's daily driven in the city?
I'll say pass to that fuel savings.
Besides not that huge disparity naman.

Sa edad pa lang ni biyenan mo convenient for him na mag AT na.
Father in law ko naman opposite case, ever since MT lover yun, prior for him getting their new ride i said my piece re: getting an AT pero i didn't insist since siya nga ang gagamit nun. Ended up with MT pa din.
Now pag long drives/city traffic medyo nahihirapan na siya.

What I'm trying to say is some drivers are not consistent smooth driving with M/T. It happened to my sister's driver accelerating nearly 60kph shifting from 3rd gear to 4th gear, messing up then slipping it into 2nd. another reasons when accelerating 20kph in high gear already and the most common is clutch driver etc...
OT - for driver like Jut who likes to feel the kick when accelerating his car then M/T is the one and only. vroom vroom![]()
If it's automatic gas versus manual diesel, it's very easy... just show the calculations. Then sell them on the practicality of having a car you can push start when the battery dies, and in which you have finer control over acceleration and deceleration (engine braking).
-
But what you save in gas money has to balance out the inconvenience of occasional clutch changes (every two or three years) and, if it's a modern diesel, the dual mass flywheel, as well (about 15-30k just for the part, if I recall right).
And the not inconsiderable pain of driving a manual in Manila traffic. When you get older, you start getting cramps and joint pains from hovering over the clutch for hours. And clutches on some diesels are no joke! Very heavy, very stiff... because they have to be rated for the extra torque. The gearshifts are also horribly agricultural on most of them.
Automatics nowadays have even more gears than manuals, so they can match manuals in traffic and sometimes exceed them on the highway. On high-powered diesels, the manual transmission is no longer necessary. The only diesels I'd prefer a manual on are the low-powered ones like the Accent and the Crosswind*. Everything else... give me a two-pedal and paddles.
-
*Okay, so the Accent isn't really "low powered"... I just want it in stick because it's darn fun to drive...![]()
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
We'll his brother and daughter suggested diesel suv pero di pa din lol. Actually he already bought the CR-V 2016 model w/ cruise control and rear camera. 75yo na erpats ni misis kaya yun ang type nya kaya I kept silent nalang sabi nyo nga di ko naman pera hehe
for him - matic is best coz of his age. pero for me, boring i-drive yung matic parang go cart, yung sports mode naman nakaka panibago pero sanayan din. isa pa sobrang tahimik di mo marinig yung revs, alangan nakatutok ka dun sa rpm guage lagi lol. at diesel para tipid pangmatagalan
OT: me ganito na ba na tech?
parang HUD
Why does your preference matter? It's not your car. I find it utterly selfish to have created this thread in the first place, since you apparently care more about what you want in a car than what your geriatric father-in-law (who owns the car) needs.
Also, I own both manual and automatic cars, and in both cases I don't need to look at the tachometer to shift. Especially with an automatic, where the ECU does the shifting for you. Just step on the pedal and go. That's the convenience of it, which is what many people look for, your father in law included.
Lastly, yes, HUDs are easily available now. Cheapest way to do it is through your smartphone, connected to an OBD scanner through Bluetooth, displaying the car's info through a HUD app.

75 yrs old na pala hindi na same legs and knees with you kaya bagay talaga AT sa kanya. O balak mo ba arborin lagi kaya gusto mo isuggest yung ikakatuwa mo? Hehehehe
If it were not for the horrible traffic, I would prefer stick actually.
Halos wala namang fuel savings for bigger-engined cars or cars with CVTs. I get 8.5 km/L with my MT Altis, more or less the same as with a CVT Altis.
No CVT comes close to the response of a manual though, and that's the clincher for me.
