Hindi maganda ang cool air sa engine, hindi magiging maganda ang combustion.naka2bawas ng life span ng engine ang cold air intake. kung balak mo talaga patagalin ang sasakyan mo keep it stock, kung gus2 mo naman pabilisin modify it,severely modified cars doesnt last long compare to stock.
F1 teams use dry ice to keep their cars cool (saw them stuffing the chunks into the sides) sa starting grid kapag masyadong mainit ang track...other than that haven't really seen how it's used...
maybe the dry-ice is used only to cool the engine...
pansin ko ganito..pag cool engine ng van(normal operationg temperature, which is 1/4 of the temp. gauge)ok ang performance..but kung noon time, parang sluggish ang performance and the gauge went over 1/4 mark to half...pero mag humigit by a "pinkie finger" sa 1/2, ramdam na ang sluggishness..
one time i hose down my oil coolers, condensers and radiator with water...cold but when it passed on the parts, the water is near boiling hot..when i checked my uged and seen it returned to 1/4,i went off....since the wheather is hot that day on NLEX, it immediately rose to 1/2 again....
opinion ko lang using ordinary water...havent tried dry-ice..diba ang evo-8 may sprayers sa intercooler?
before drag racers have a canister with cold ice or dry ice inside with the fuel line passing in the middle, cold fuel parang nitrous daw ang effect, its easier to burn.
...i think this is what they do before. not to cool the engine but to cool down the fuel.Originally Posted by ARB
actually, from what i recall, sucking in cool air will result in a greater amount of oxygen taken in during the intake stroke. because any matter that is cooled becomes denser, which is a result of the the molecules becoming more compact. the same principle explains why sealed cooking pans, rice cookers etc. all expel air at high speeds when heated, the heated matter expands due to the decrease in density increasing the amount of pressure in a given unit of volume, and if you cool the matter the opposite hapens. the matter becomes denser and therefore becomes more compact. More compact matter means that there will be a greater amount of matter per unit of volume than matter that is less dense.cool air DOESN'T mean more oxygen.
in truth, the amount of air in the atmosphere is directly proportional to altitude. so the higher you go the thinner the air becomes. it is true that the amount of oxygen is less when you are at higher altitudes but this is not because the temperature is lower. it is in fact due to the increasing altitude.Remember, as you climb/drive to higher altitudes you get less oxygen but air gets colder.
The troposphere is the lowest layer and contains about 75% of the total mass of the atmosphere, but the thermosphere, which is one of the two outer layers contains less than 1% of the total mass of the earth's atmoshpere. The thermosphere's temperature could reach 441 degrees farenheit, which is very hot. If you believe that the amount of air decreases when the temperature decreases then this layer should have the largest percentage of mass of the atmosphere. But it doesn't. Air is closer to the lowest layer because of gravity.
So colder oxygen means more oxygen per unit of volume.
ang khaos talaga ay hindi natutunaw na dry ice... kaya it saves fuel! hehehehe
ayus yan. pagka tapos mag racing, magtinda ka ng sorbetes. tamang tama sa init ng panahon ngayon dito sa pinas. ;)
i guess we're both right. CO2 is both produced by combustion and by breathing. and CO is always produced because combustion process can't be perfect.Originally Posted by mazdamazda
cold engine runs more efficient? so bakit nilalagyan ng thermostat ang cooling system para mas madali uminit ang makina? baliktad yata?
cold air intakes and intercoolers work since cold air is denser than warm air, and therefore has more mass. more mass means more oxygen for combustion, and that is also why your cars run better in the early morning, because the air is still cool >more dense >more mass >more oxygen.
DO NOT CONFUSE THIS COLD AIR AT SEA LEVEL WITH COLD AIR AT HIGH ALTITUDES! air is cold at high altitudes because it is less dense, and therefore retains heat less than dense air at sea level/low altitudes. so even if air in Baguio city is cool, your car engine runs with less power up there because the air is thin > less mass > less oxygen.
but a cold engine running more efficiently than a hot engine? naaaah! not in any book i know. the only reason there is a cooling system in your car is so that the metal parts do not break from heat induced stresses. the hotter it gets the more efficient the combustion process becomes. ever heard of ceramic engines? no cooling system, designed to run at the highest temperatures, more efficient than any cooling system equipped engine ever built.
